María Zardoya, the lead singer of the psychedelic soul and indie pop group The Marías, has revealed her first solo endeavor, titled "Not for Radio

" After spending eight years with the four-member band, Zardoya emphasized that this is not a sign of the group splitting up—The Marías will keep creating music as a unit. In a live Instagram session on the band’s official account, she appeared wearing a white T-shirt with the straightforward statement, "I made a solo project." She then pointed followers to a new account named "Not for Radio," where she posted early glimpses of the material and hinted at possible features from other artists. In a sincere note, she made it clear that the band is not going anywhere. She spoke about her deep affection for making music with The Marías but shared that she felt compelled to dive into a more individual artistic direction. It’s not uncommon for musicians to seek new avenues while holding onto the foundation that built their success. Evolution and trying new things often complement each other in creative fields. She framed this new phase as another facet of her identity, comparing it to planting an extra flower in a garden, and welcomed everyone into what she refers to as her alternate reality. The T-shirt from the broadcast was offered for a short period on her website but was quickly bought up. The "Not for Radio" account also released a teaser showing a flower in bloom, accompanied by Zardoya’s voice asking thoughtfully, "I keep asking myself: Is love worth the pain?" The Marías’ latest album, "Submarine," received strong praise from critics and resulted in high-profile gigs, such as appearances at Coachella and supporting Billie Eilish on her "Hit Me Hard and Soft" tour. The band has also worked with names like Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco on "Ojos Tristes" and Bad Bunny on "Otro Atardecer," along with other significant collaborations.
