OpenWav, a music service designed for artists to connect with fans and handle ticketing, merchandise, and other offerings, has introduced StorchVerse, a worldwide contest for independent musicians

The effort is led by Grammy-nominated producer Scott Storch, known for his work with top artists such as Dr. Dre, Fat Joe, Beyoncé, and Christina Aguilera. Starting today, musicians can submit their original lyrics and reach new listeners. The top prize is $3,000 and a feature on Storch’s upcoming four-track EP, which will debut exclusively on OpenWav. Second and third place winners will also appear on the EP, joining a notable artist on the closing track. Initiatives like this highlight how the music landscape is changing, providing more ways for artists to gain visibility and work together beyond conventional routes. It’s notable to see industry veterans like Storch dedicating effort to emerging talent, reflecting a wider trend in how music is shared and supported now. OpenWav’s strategy focuses on redefining chances for musicians by opening up income opportunities and broadening their global audience. Storch shared, "I’ve collaborated with many major artists, but what motivates me these days is finding the next generation of talent. Teaming up with OpenWav is thrilling for that reason. This EP isn’t just my project—it’s a way to elevate new artists and give them a spotlight." Jaeson Ma, CEO and co-founder of OpenWav, added, "Current mainstream platforms often put obstacles in front of independent musicians regarding earnings, data control, and cultivating loyal fanbases, which can hinder long-term careers. This contest represents OpenWav’s mission: to assist artists in gaining exposure and acknowledgment. Partnering with an influential figure like Scott Storch offers aspiring musicians a genuine opportunity to make their mark." To enter, artists need to get the OpenWav app from the App Store or Google Play, set up an account, and share their verse or song. Submissions will be judged by Storch personally, with an emphasis on innovation, uniqueness, and overall quality. The process is simple: First, create a track using at least 16 bars and a chorus over a beat provided by Scott Storch—complete songs are also accepted. Second, post the entry as audio or video, with video preferred for stronger engagement. Third, boost your submission by encouraging fans to join your WavRoom, a private fan group, and gather support through likes, comments, and sales of special content or merch. Each interaction serves as a vote, assisting artists in moving into the Top 20. The submission period is currently open and ends on September 5. Winners will be announced on September 10. Additional details can be found on the contest’s official site.
