At a rooftop gathering hosted by the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Thursday night, Addison Rae joined Variety’s Thania Garcia for a conversation about her first album "Addison" and the musical inspirations that shaped her sound

The discussion included reflections on Lady Gaga’s unreleased take on "Nothing On (But the Radio)"—a song Rae featured on her 2023 EP—as well as her recent stint opening for Lana Del Rey. Attendees got an inside perspective on Rae’s creative journey, with input from her regular collaborators, producers Elvira Anderfjärd and Luka Kloser. The event also marked Rae’s debut headlining show in Los Angeles. With Anderfjärd and Kloser providing musical support, she performed three tracks: "Diet Pepsi," "Headphones On," and "Fame Is a Gun." Between songs, Rae connected easily with the crowd, encouraging them to join in—which they did with energy during a more intimate version of "Diet Pepsi," where fans sang every word of the bridge. Sunflowers decorated the stage, matching Rae’s retro dress and the yellow-toned visuals of her album. It’s worth noting how artists often draw from one another’s unreleased material, building a kind of creative bridge across generations. Rae talked about being aware that Gaga had recorded "Nothing On (But the Radio)" and shared her enthusiasm for that link. She put her own spin on the track, tweaking some lyrics to reflect her style. While she doesn’t know why Gaga never released it, Rae mentioned she would be thrilled to hear Gaga perform it live one day. The guest list included industry heavyweights like hitmaker Max Martin and vocal coach Eric Vetro, both seated up front. After the performance, they met Rae backstage with supportive feedback. Anderfjärd and Kloser’s connection to Martin’s publishing company, MXM, added a meaningful industry layer to the night. Looking ahead, Rae is preparing for "The Addison Tour," which begins in Europe later this month before moving to North America and Australia. She also looked back on opening for Lana Del Rey at London’s Wembley Stadium last month, where the two performed "Diet Pepsi" together. Rae described the huge show as intimidating but impactful, made easier by Lana’s encouraging presence and the chance to get the audience ready. Playing on such an iconic stage is a significant step for any new artist, and Rae appeared to welcome both the jitters and the progress that followed.
