A man has been taken into custody following an assault on a woman at a Rüfüs Du Sol concert held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California

The attack, recorded on video by another attendee, gained rapid attention online after the victim sought help in identifying the person responsible. Julio Cesar Lopez Zavala, 23, was apprehended by Pasadena police on Thursday in Hawthorne. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for formal charges, according to city spokesperson Lisa Derderian. Authorities mentioned that although one woman’s account brought significant attention to the assault, there were actually three individuals targeted by the suspect, who reportedly became aggressive after a drink was spilled. Video evidence and tips from the public played a key role in identifying him. The woman who first shared her story online stated on Tuesday that Zavala had been identified as her attacker. Online users quickly began searching for information about him, with some indications that he might have worked in nursing. His Facebook profile was removed before news of his arrest circulated. This situation highlights how digital platforms can accelerate the spread of information and sometimes assist law enforcement. It also brings up considerations about where personal privacy fits in these circumstances and how public involvement can influence outcomes. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on August 16, before the main performance started. Police secured a tunnel nearby to allow emergency responders to assist. The female victim chose not to go to the hospital. The widely shared video depicts a man in an aisle violently striking a woman, even as someone tried to intervene by pulling his pants down. The woman who reported being punched said she lost consciousness. She described the event in a message later shared by Festive Owl, an account focused on electronic music events. According to her, a drink was accidentally spilled on the man, apologies were offered, but he returned later, made threats, and carried out the assault. With the suspect’s face clearly visible in the footage, many online expressed hope that he would be identified and face both legal and professional consequences. The main victim stated her intention to pursue criminal charges and a civil lawsuit, and she thanked the public for their support. Rüfüs Du Sol issued a statement expressing profound sadness over the violence at their show, emphasizing that attendee safety is a priority and condemning the behavior as entirely unacceptable.
