Universal Music India Partners With Bollywood Hitmaker Maddock Films for New Label ‘Mad for Mussic’- Global Bulletin

Universal Music India has forged a major new alliance with Maddock Films, the acclaimed Bollywood studio responsible for hits like “Stree” and “Bhediya,” and its recently launched music division, Mad For Mussic. Under this agreement, Maddock—led by founder Dinesh Vijan—will collaborate with UMI as its global soundtrack partner. The deal strengthens UMI’s foothold in India’s film music sector while tapping into the worldwide distribution and promotional capabilities of the Universal Music Group. Maddock Films has built a distinctive brand by blending horror and comedy, a formula that has delivered recent successes such as “Stree 2” and “Chhaava,” along with the viral song “Pardesiya.” Industry experts note that partnerships between music labels and production houses are growing more frequent as both sides look to maximize soundtrack earnings across international streaming platforms. According to entertainment analyst Rohit Nair, “Aligning with a global music giant allows studios to amplify the reach of their soundtracks, transforming local favorites into cross-border cultural moments.” Adam Granite, CEO of UMG for Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, hailed the collaboration as a “significant step” in the company’s regional expansion. Vijan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing music’s central role in his storytelling and labeling UMG an ideal partner as Maddock continues building its film franchises. Notably, this new partnership follows an earlier 2024 deal between Maddock Films and Sony Music India, which managed soundtracks for projects including “Chhava” and “Ikkis.” Such back-to-back alliances reflect a strategic shift among studios toward securing flexible, wide-reaching music distribution in an increasingly globalized market. In other entertainment updates, Amazon MX Player is set to debut the reality competition “Rise & Fall” on September 6. Based on a UK format from Studio Lambert, the series pits 16 celebrities against each other in a two-tier hierarchy: “Rulers” living in luxury and “Workers” relegated to a basement. Over 42 days, contestants will take part in unscripted challenges in a bid to come out on top. Ashneer Grover, former Shark Tank India judge, serves as host, with participants including Arjun Bijlani, Dhanashree Verma, Kubbra Sait, and Kiku Sharda. Produced by Banijay Asia, “Rise & Fall” will stream for free on Amazon’s ad-supported platform under the tagline: “16 contestants. Two worlds. One ultimate power struggle.” Amogh Dusad, Head of Content at Amazon MX Player, described the show as a social experiment that holds a mirror to real-world power dynamics and marginalization. The format is expected to strike a chord with viewers due to its critical lens on social hierarchy and ambition within an intense, entertainment-driven context. Programs like this often ignite public discourse about privilege and mobility, aligning with a growing appetite for content that merges engaging drama with thoughtful social observation.
