Lady Gaga Announces ‘The Dead Dance’ Single Release Date

Lady Gaga has confirmed that her new single, "The Dead Dance," will premiere on September 3. The announcement was made during Spotify and Netflix’s "Wednesday" Graveyard Gala in New York, where she shared the stage with the show’s star, Jenna Ortega. Addressing the audience, Gaga remarked, “Working on ‘Wednesday’ season two was unforgettable. Collaborating with Tim Burton, Jenna, and the entire team was a true honor—thank you. I’m also excited to share that my new track, ‘The Dead Dance,’ is coming very soon.” The release is strategically set for a Wednesday, echoing earlier Variety reports that the song will feature in the second season of the Tim Burton-directed Netflix series. Rumors about the track gained momentum last month when several media outlets revealed that Gaga had shot a music video with Burton on Mexico City’s Island of the Dolls in Xochimilco. The location—noted for its haunting displays of weathered dolls suspended from trees—provides a distinctly macabre visual that suits the gothic tone of "Wednesday." Gaga has not appeared on-screen in the series to date. The first four episodes debuted on August 6 without her involvement, while the final four are slated to drop on the same day as her single. This rollout coincides with her current "Mayhem Ball" tour, which recently wrapped a four-night stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden—a storied arena that has hosted iconic acts from The Beatles to Beyoncé. According to industry analyst Mara Jenkins, “Aligning a single release with both a series finale and a major tour milestone is a strategic move that maximizes visibility across entertainment channels.” The "Mayhem Ball" tour launched in Las Vegas in July and will next head to Miami before revisiting New York, with upcoming shows in Toronto and Chicago. Following its North American leg, the tour is expected to continue across international markets. Gaga’s involvement in the "Wednesday" soundtrack marks her latest venture into film and television music, expanding on earlier successes like "A Star Is Born"—which earned her an Oscar for Best Original Song—and her contributions to the "Top Gun: Maverick" soundtrack. Her continued movement between musical and visual storytelling underscores her unique position as a cross-medium creative force.
