Sabrina Carpenter’s New ‘Man’s Best Friend’ Album Is Here — and So Is Her ‘Tears’ Video Featuring Colman Domingo

Sabrina Carpenter has released her seventh studio album, "Man’s Best Friend," accompanied by a cinematic music video for its second single, "Tears." The rollout features theatrical visuals and her signature mix of vibrant aesthetics and sharp lyricism. In one standout lyric, she remarks: “A little initiative can go a very long, long way—baby, just do the dishes, I’ll give you what you want.” The video draws inspiration from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," depicting Carpenter arriving at a remote mansion where she encounters a cast of eccentric characters, including a drag performance by actor Colman Domingo. The album includes 12 tracks, 10 of which are marked explicit—a tone reinforced by its bold cover art, which shows the "Espresso" singer on all fours with her hair being pulled. Carpenter, whose shift toward more mature themes began with 2019’s "Singular: Act II," highlighted the album’s provocative spirit in a recent interview with Gayle King. “This album is not for any pearl clutchers,” she noted, “but I also think even pearl clutchers can listen in solitude and find something that makes them smirk.” This fearless approach has become a defining feature of her recent output, aligning with a wider movement in pop music where artists embrace candid, and at times risqué, personal narratives. Leading up to the album’s debut, the single "Manchild" became Carpenter’s first No. 1 debut on the U.S. songs chart—a feat she previously achieved with "Please Please Please" from her Grammy-winning album "Short n’ Sweet." Music critic Lena Shaw commented, “Carpenter has perfected the balance of pop appeal and lyrical daring. She transforms personal boldness into public spectacle.” This consistent chart success highlights her evolution from a Disney Channel actress to an assured pop innovator with worldwide recognition. Looking forward, Carpenter will return to the stage this October with a performance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. She is also scheduled to appear at Lollapalooza festivals in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil in 2025, reinforcing her status as a compelling international live performer. These bookings follow her recent "Short n’ Sweet" tour, which earned acclaim for its high-energy production and Carpenter’s strong rapport with fans. Her upcoming festival appearances are expected to draw large, enthusiastic crowds, further establishing her as a must-see act in the global pop landscape.
