Universal Music India Partners With Bollywood Hitmaker Maddock Films for New Label ‘Mad for Mussic’- Global Bulletin

Universal Music India has forged a significant new alliance with Maddock Films, a leading Bollywood production house recognized for its hit horror-comedies including "Stree," "Bhediya," and "Munjya." The partnership also incorporates the studio's newly launched music arm, Mad For Mussic. As part of the deal, UMI will serve as the worldwide strategic partner for all forthcoming film soundtracks from Maddock, utilizing the global infrastructure of Universal Music Group to amplify the international presence of Indian cinema music. Maddock Films was established by producer Dinesh Vijan and has built a reputation for creating high-concept films that merge inventive storytelling with impactful musical scores. Recent successes feature the widely popular track “Pardesiya” and major box office performers such as “Stree 2” and “Chhaava,” which are among the highest-earning Hindi films in history. Vijan emphasized that music is a core element of his content strategy, describing UMG as “an ideal collaborator” as the studio broadens its franchise offerings. This agreement comes after a prior soundtrack arrangement with Sony Music India for films like “Chhava” and “Ikkis,” highlighting the intensifying rivalry among music labels for premium film music catalogues. Adam Granite, CEO of UMG for Africa, Middle East, and Asia, referred to the partnership as “a pivotal advancement for our operations in India,” noting the label’s focused effort to penetrate the film music sector—a segment that commands over 70% of music consumption in the country. Industry analysts point out that film soundtracks are not only culturally dominant but also crucial for streaming platforms, making such alliances essential for international labels aiming to strengthen their foothold in India’s rapidly expanding media market. In related entertainment updates, Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service MX Player is set to launch the reality series “Rise & Fall” on September 6. Based on Studio Lambert’s UK format and distributed by All3Media International, the program pits 16 Indian celebrities against each other within a divided social structure: “Rulers” enjoy lavish penthouse accommodations while “Workers” face austere basement living. Across 42 unscripted days, participants will navigate strategic challenges, forge alliances, and confront public votes that can dramatically alter the hierarchy. Hosting the series is Ashneer Grover, who gained prominence as a former judge on Shark Tank India and makes his hosting debut with this project. The lineup of contestants includes actor Arjun Bijlani, professional dancer Dhanashree Verma, actress Kubbra Sait, and comedian Kiku Sharda. Amogh Dusad, Head of Content at Amazon MX Player, commented, “This series acts as a compelling social mirror, reflecting the extreme divides between privilege and struggle in contemporary society.” Produced by Banijay Asia, “Rise & Fall” seeks to blend entertainment with insightful social observation, introducing a novel competitive format to India’s vibrant reality television landscape.
