Show moreLady Gaga to Perform at MTV Video Music Awards 2025
Pop icon Lady Gaga is set to perform at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which will broadcast live on September 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream on Paramount+. The news arrives shortly after her unexpected appearance in the season premiere of Tim Burton’s Netflix series "Wednesday," during which she also announced that her new single, "The Dead Dance," will drop on September 3—the same day the show’s second half premieres.
This year, Gaga leads the VMA nominations with an impressive 12 nods, spanning hits such as "Die With a Smile" and "Abracadabra," as well as her recent album "Mayhem." Close behind is Bruno Mars with 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar received 10. Other major contenders include Sabrina Carpenter and Rose, each with eight nominations, and Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, who both earned seven.
Gaga joins a star-studded lineup of performers including Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, Doja Cat, Conan Gray, Jelly Roll, Tate McRae, and international acts J Balvin and DJ Snake. The ceremony will also pay tribute to music legends: Mariah Carey—whose landmark 1995 album "Daydream" established her as a defining voice in pop and R&B—will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award and take the stage, while Busta Rhymes receives the Rock the Bells Visionary Award. Ricky Martin will make history as the first recipient of the Latin Icon Award.
Her upcoming VMA appearance coincides with her ongoing "Mayhem Ball" tour, which launched in Las Vegas in July. The North American leg includes upcoming stops in Miami, New York City, Toronto, and Chicago before moving overseas. Gaga’s enduring impact across music, film, and television underscores her remarkable versatility. As music critic Lena Torres observed, “Few artists can pivot so fluidly between artistic formats while staying culturally resonant—Gaga’s carefully orchestrated release strategy ensures she remains a constant presence in the spotlight.” This multifaceted approach has cemented her status as one of the most influential and creatively bold figures in entertainment today.
