Taylor Swift Is ‘Welcome at Any Time’ to Play Super Bowl Halftime Show, Says NFL Chief Roger Goodell
During a Wednesday appearance on NBC's "Today" show, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed strong enthusiasm for the possibility of Taylor Swift headlining a future Super Bowl Halftime Show. “We would absolutely welcome Taylor to perform,” he affirmed. “She’s an extraordinary talent, and there’s no question she’d be a fantastic addition.” When co-host Savannah Guthrie asked whether arrangements were already in motion, Goodell replied coyly, “Perhaps,” and noted that the final decision rests with Roc Nation—the entertainment firm helmed by Jay-Z, which has overseen halftime production since 2020.
Roc Nation, established in 2008 by hip-hop mogul Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, assumed creative control of the Super Bowl spectacle after the league faced backlash over its response to national anthem protests and a perceived lack of inclusivity in its marquee entertainment. Under its stewardship, the event has deliberately spotlighted artists from diverse backgrounds, moving away from a historically less varied lineup. Recent headliners like Rihanna, Usher, and Kendrick Lamar—who brought out SZA during his 2024 set—reflect this intentional shift toward broader representation.
Pressed for further details on timing, Goodell quipped, “I’m waiting to hear from my friend Jay—it’s really his call.” While official announcements have historically varied, last year’s performer was confirmed in early September, suggesting a reveal could be imminent. Neither Swift’s team nor Roc Nation offered immediate comment when approached by Variety.
Rumors of a Swift-led halftime show have persisted for years, but recent months have seen speculation reach new heights. Her high-profile romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, combined with a widely discussed joint podcast appearance, has amplified both fan and media anticipation. As entertainment analyst Mara Jenkins observed, “A Taylor Swift Super Bowl performance would transcend typical entertainment—it would be a convergence of pop culture, athletics, and live spectacle, creating a must-watch event for millions.”
If finalized, a Swift halftime show would represent a major milestone for the NFL's ongoing effort to refresh its brand appeal and for the artist herself, whose record-shattering Eras Tour has already cemented her status as a generational talent. Given her immense global fanbase and proven ability to draw record viewership, her involvement would almost certainly result in one of the most-watched Super Bowl intermissions ever.
