Show more‘New Years Rev’ Trailer: Green Day Fans Take a Rock ‘n’ Roll Road Trip in Coming-of-Age Comedy (EXCLUSIVE)
The coming-of-age comedy "New Years Rev" follows three friends who embark on a chaotic road trip after mistakenly believing their band has scored an opening gig for Green Day. Starring Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, the film—set to premiere September 12 at the Toronto International Film Festival—sees the trio hijack a taxi and speed toward Los Angeles, blending romantic mishaps and rock-fueled antics along the way.
Green Day, the iconic punk band comprised of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, not only make a cameo but also perform in the movie. The project was developed alongside Live Nation Productions, drawing inspiration from the band’s own decades of touring experience. Industry analysts have noted a growing appetite for music-driven narratives, with recent successes like "Rocketman" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" demonstrating audience interest in authentic behind-the-music stories. CAA Media Finance is overseeing distribution.
Directed by Lee Kirk, the film features a strong supporting cast including Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey—both celebrated for their roles on the hit sitcom "The Office"—as well as Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Mckenna Grace, and comedians Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, and Sean Gunn. The soundtrack leans heavily on Green Day’s discography, reinforcing the movie’s rebellious, high-energy atmosphere.
Billie Joe Armstrong reflected on the film’s personal resonance, saying, “Touring in a van is its own kind of glory. You’ll drive through the night exhausted, play for a handful of people in some basement, then wake up and do it all over again. That bond with your band—it becomes family. There’s nothing else like it.” First reported by Variety in February, the project has already generated buzz among both music lovers and filmgoers.
Blending humor, youthful adventure, and an earnest rock soundtrack, "New Years Rev" seeks to capture the messy, exhilarating reality of life on the road. The official trailer is now available online for eager audiences.
