Show moreTame Impala to Release New Album ‘Deadbeat’ in October
Tame Impala has revealed that its fifth studio album, titled "Deadbeat," will be released on October 17. Two singles have already been shared with fans: "End of Summer," a hazy, distortion-laden track, and "Loser," which came out on September 3 along with a music video directed by Julian Kristofski. The video stars actor Joe Keery, best known for playing Steve Harrington in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things—a role that helped propel him to international fame.
The album was recorded in early 2025 in two distinct settings: Fremantle, the hometown of bandleader Kevin Parker, and his private studio, Wave House, located in the tranquil coastal region of Injidup, Western Australia. Inspired heavily by Australia’s bush doof culture—a type of outdoor electronic music gathering often held in secluded natural landscapes—"Deadbeat" marks a shift in the band’s sound, with press materials labeling it a “future primitive rave act.” Thematically, the album explores inertia and self-sabotage, following a central character stuck in a cycle of underachievement.
This release comes five years after Tame Impala’s previous album, "The Slow Rush," which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200—Parker’s highest U.S. chart position at the time—and also reached No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart. That performance highlighted not only his widespread popularity but also his audience’s strong interest in physical media. As music journalist Simon Reed notes, “Parker has always merged rock and electronic elements, but 'Deadbeat' feels like a full embrace of electronic textures—a bold evolution that may attract new listeners while deepening his artistic narrative.”
Pre-orders are now open for the album, featuring several exclusive editions. Among them are two colored vinyl variants available through the official store, a special pressing exclusive to Urban Outfitters, and another reserved for independent record shops. A limited run of numbered cassette tapes will also be sold via Brooklyn Vegan and Alternative Press, catering to collectors who value rare physical releases.
The official music video for “Loser” can now be streamed online.
