Mitski Concert Film ‘The Land’ to Get Limited Theatrical Release (EXCLUSIVE)

Acclaimed indie rock musician Mitski, celebrated for her deeply emotive albums including 2022’s "Laurel Hell," has revealed plans for a concert film titled “The Land.” The project will receive a limited theatrical release starting October 22, with showings arranged in 630 cinemas spanning 30 countries. International distributor Trafalgar Releasing is overseeing the rollout.

Tickets will become available on September 15. Filming took place across three nights at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre—a venue that has welcomed icons from Elvis Presley to Prince—during Mitski’s 2024 tour promoting her most recent album, "The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We." This album, released in 2023, marked her seventh studio effort and received widespread critical acclaim for its atmospheric sound and lyrical depth.

Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, commented: “Mitski’s artistic vision and powerful stage presence make this concert film a truly unique experience. We’re honored to share it with audiences globally.” The production showcases Mitski accompanied by a seven-piece band, with cinematography by Grant James—known for his work with artists like Father John Misty—who uses dramatic lighting to enhance the emotional texture of each song.

Stage designer Andi Watson developed a visually rich environment that reflects the album’s themes of isolation and delicate human bonds, transitioning between sparse arrangements and lush, immersive scenes. Choreography was led by Monica Mirabile, while the setlist blends new songs with reworked classics from Mitski’s earlier releases. Audio mixing was handled by Patrick Hyland, a frequent collaborator, ensuring high-fidelity sound that complements the film's visual artistry.

“Mitski: The Land” is a collaborative effort between Moniker Films, Good Harbor Music, Working Class Films, and her label Dead Oceans. This release is part of a broader movement among musicians to leverage cinema as a medium for reaching fans in a curated, high-impact format. As live entertainment continues to evolve, such projects allow artists to extend their creative expression beyond the stage, offering audiences an intimate yet grand viewing experience.
