Bad Bunny Says He Didn’t Include U.S. in Tour Dates Due to Fear of ICE Raids
In a recent conversation with I-D magazine, international music superstar Bad Bunny explained his rationale for omitting the United States from his upcoming 2025–26 Debi Tirar Mas Fotos World Tour. The artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, pointed to fears around possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations as a major influence. He voiced particular concern that federal authorities might station themselves near his events, fostering an atmosphere of apprehension for concertgoers.
Bad Bunny emphasized that the choice was not motivated by ill will, highlighting his long history of sold-out performances and devoted followers throughout the U.S. "Every show has been incredible and deeply meaningful," he remarked. "I’ve always valued the chance to share moments with Latino communities across the country." Rather than turning his back on American fans, he framed the decision as a precautionary step, suggesting that supporters consider traveling to Puerto Rico—a U.S. territory—or other global destinations to experience his shows without concern.
This marks the latest instance in which the artist has publicly questioned the need for U.S. tour stops. Earlier this year, in a Variety cover story, he described stateside concerts as "redundant," noting that American audiences have seen him repeatedly since his breakthrough. His position aligns with ongoing unease around U.S. immigration policy, a subject he has addressed with increasing frequency.
In recent months, Bad Bunny has leveraged his visibility to call attention to ICE activities. This past June, he posted a video on social media that seemed to show immigration officers making arrests in a public space, accompanied by strong criticism. “Take a look—these people are in RAV-4s, right here in Pontezuela,” he stated. “Instead of letting folks live peacefully, they’re out harassing people. It’s disgraceful.” His willingness to speak out has drawn attention to the tangible effects of immigration enforcement on Latino families and neighborhoods.
By deliberately sidestepping U.S. venues, Bad Bunny is sending a clear message in solidarity with his audience. As one policy researcher observed, “High-profile artists have the ability to shape public conversation around issues like immigration. When someone of his influence acts on principle, it encourages broader awareness and empathy.” This approach may inspire other performers to consider how their touring choices reflect their ethical and political commitments.
