Show moreSonic Youth’s Thurston Moore Signs Attawalpa, the Musical Project of Lena Dunham’s Husband and ‘Too Much’ Co-Creator Luis Felber
Luis Felber, the creative force behind the musical project Attawalpa, has signed with the independent label Daydream Library Series, co-founded by Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz. Felber, a London-based multi-instrumentalist of South American descent, recently co-created the music for the Netflix series "Too Much," which was produced by his wife, Lena Dunham.
Through the new partnership, Attawalpa will release a Dolby Atmos-mastered edition of his second album, "Experience," available starting Friday on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal. In a joint statement, Thurston Moore emphasized the artistic alignment, saying, “We trust Luis Felber with his articulate insight of height channels and free-moving sound objects to interpret his already gorgeously spaced-out album with three-dimensional audio, free from horizontal or vertical limitations.” Eva Prinz added that Daydream Library Series remains dedicated to digital innovation, exploring technologies that enhance streaming quality and artistic storytelling.
Several tracks from "Experience" were previously featured in "Too Much," performed on-screen by actor Will Sharpe. Songs like “Always the Girls,” “True Love Trajectory,” and “No Limitations” took on what Felber described in a Variety interview as “a sort of Echo and the Bunnymen vibe” thanks to Sharpe’s interpretation. Felber expressed excitement about joining the label, recalling, “I flipped out when I received a text from Thurston saying how much he was enjoying my album.” He praised Moore’s cultural impact and expressed honor at becoming part of the Daydream roster.
Though Attawalpa began as Felber’s solo endeavor—the name derives from his full name, Luis Delfin Attawalpa Saul Felber—the project has since grown into a collaborative effort. The album "Experience" was developed with a “family” of musicians, including producer and bassist Matt Allchin, drummer Henry Danowski, and percussionist Maurizio Ravalico, known for his work with Jamiroquai. Additional contributions came from viola player Freya Hicks and keyboardist Adam Sopp. The Dolby Atmos master was exclusively handled by Dyre Gormsen for Daydream Library Series, while mixing was completed by Eduardo de la Paz.
This release follows Attawalpa’s earlier works, including the 2022 album "Presence" and two EPs. The move to Dolby Atmos reflects a growing trend in music production aimed at creating more immersive listening experiences, especially as spatial audio support expands across major streaming platforms. Industry experts suggest that such high-fidelity releases may help artists stand out in an increasingly crowded digital landscape.
