‘SNL’ to Open Season 51 With Bad Bunny, Amy Poehler and Sabrina Carpenter as Hosts

NBC's iconic late-night sketch show "Saturday Night Live" has revealed the lineup for the first three episodes of its 51st season. Global music superstar Bad Bunny will host the October 4 season premiere, with Doja Cat performing as musical guest. The following week, former "SNL" cast member Amy Poehler returns to host on October 11, supported by breakout singer-songwriter Role Model. On October 18, pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter will pull off the rare feat of serving as both host and musical guest.

Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican artist born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is no stranger to the Studio 8H stage. He first appeared in a cameo in 2020, returned as musical guest in 2021, and took on the dual role of host and performer in 2023. His upcoming solo hosting gig aligns with the promotional campaign for his new album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” set for release this fall. Doja Cat, who joins him on the premiere, will also be showcasing material from her fifth studio album “Vie,” which drops September 26.

Amy Poehler, a "Saturday Night Live" cast member from 2001 to 2008 and former "Weekend Update" co-anchor, returns for her third time hosting the show. Her previous turns in the role came in 2010 and 2015. Poehler has continued to build her comedic brand with projects like her recently launched podcast “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” which has already garnered a dedicated following. Musical guest Role Model, whose single “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” recently topped Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, will make his debut appearance on the show.

Sabrina Carpenter, who previously performed on the Season 49 finale, steps into the dual host-musical guest role on October 18—a rare honor typically reserved for artists with strong comedic and musical versatility. Her latest album, “Man’s Best Friend,” released in late August, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Industry expert Mara Liasson commented, “Being asked to host and perform signals a major vote of confidence from the ‘SNL’ team. It suggests they see an artist as both a ratings draw and a skilled entertainer.”

Executive produced by Lorne Michaels—who created the show in 1975—"Saturday Night Live" remains a cultural touchstone by blending established stars with emerging talent. Produced in partnership with Broadway Video, the series has maintained its relevance across five decades by evolving with the times while honoring its rich comedic history.
