Mark Ronson to Score Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Adaptation for Netflix (EXCLUSIVE)

Oscar-winning producer Mark Ronson is set to reunite with director Greta Gerwig, this time to compose the musical score for her upcoming Netflix adaptation of "The Chronicles of Narnia." This partnership follows their monumental success on the "Barbie" film, for which Ronson served as the executive music producer. The new project stands as one of the most eagerly awaited follow-ups to Gerwig's billion-dollar cinematic phenomenon.

Gerwig, who is writing and directing the fantasy epic, has chosen to adapt "The Magician’s Nephew," the sixth book in C.S. Lewis's beloved series. The novel serves as a prequel, chronicling the creation of the magical land of Narnia by the great lion Aslan. The film boasts a stellar cast, including Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, and Carey Mulligan. Adding a personal dimension to the production, Meryl Streep—who will voice Aslan—is Ronson's mother-in-law, as he is married to her daughter, actress Grace Gummer. This family connection creates a unique collaborative dynamic on the high-stakes project.

Ronson's contribution to the "Barbie" soundtrack was a career-defining achievement, earning nominations at the Academy Awards, Grammys, and Golden Globes. He co-wrote and produced several standout tracks and collaborated with Andrew Wyatt on the film's instrumental music. His involvement in "Narnia" coincides with the rising popularity of his recently released memoir, "Night People: How to Be a DJ in ’90s New York City." The book details his formative years in the legendary New York club circuit and has already attracted interest from Hollywood. The acclaimed production company Plan B—known for recent hits like "F1" and "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice"—has acquired the rights to develop the memoir into a feature film, signaling strong confidence in Ronson's story.

Netflix is adopting an innovative distribution model for Gerwig's "Narnia." The film is scheduled for an exclusive two-week run in Imax theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2026, aiming to offer families a premium big-screen event. Shortly after, around Christmas of the same year, it will make its global debut on the Netflix streaming service. This hybrid release strategy reflects a broader industry shift toward combining the prestige of theatrical exhibition with the wide reach of streaming platforms. As one industry analyst noted, "This approach allows a film to generate significant word-of-mouth and awards consideration before becoming instantly available to millions of subscribers, maximizing both cultural impact and viewership."
