Show moreTaylor Swift Reveals Target Has Its Own ‘Life of a Showgirl: Crowd Is Your King’ Vinyl Exclusive, as a Limited, One-Time LP Pressing
With the October 3rd arrival of "The Life of a Showgirl" fast approaching, Taylor Swift's fans, known as Swifties, were rife with conjecture about a potential exclusive vinyl release from her long-term retail collaborator, Target. Early whispers had pointed to a special version, but as the days dwindled, anticipation began to wane. The mystery was put to rest on Wednesday when Swift personally announced a limited edition LP, a one-time pressing that will not be reissued, signaling a departure from their past, more widely distributed joint releases.
Officially named "The Life of a Showgirl: The Crowd Is Your King," this exclusive variant is pressed on Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer Vinyl, featuring an opaque pink and pale-yellow pearlescent finish with gold shimmer. Housed in a custom gatefold sleeve, the package is supplemented with a large double-sided poster, a poem penned by Swift, and a collection of previously unreleased photographs. The pre-order page on Target’s site explicitly cautions that "Limited quantities [are] available, while supplies last," and clarifies the item is an online-only offering. This tactic of engineered scarcity is a calculated business decision. "Artificially limiting supply for an online-only drop creates a frenzy, turning the product into an instant grail for superfans," noted music industry analyst Clara Vance. The precise number of copies being produced remains a closely guarded secret.
For those unable to secure a pre-order, a secondary opportunity will be available on release day. Approximately 500 Target locations across the country will host a late-night event, staying open past midnight local time next Thursday to sell CDs and standard LPs. The retailer, which traces its origins back to Goodfellow Dry Goods in 1902, has been a key partner for Swift since the 2012 era of her album "Red," with their exclusive releases consistently drawing massive foot traffic. The in-store process will require fans to line up from 10 p.m. on October 2nd to obtain a reservation ticket from staff, with final purchases being completed at the stroke of midnight in the electronics department.
This vinyl announcement is distinct from the three exclusive CD variants Target had revealed earlier, which reused artwork from Swift's webstore and were not marketed as limited. The LP, however, boasts completely original front and back cover art. Swift heralded the release on Instagram, writing, "A showgirl knows to save some of her best tricks for the grand finale. The Life of a Showgirl: The Crowd is your King Edition on Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer Vinyl is available to pre-order now exclusively at @target while supplies last."
In a significant break from her recent album campaigns, Swift has verified that every version of "The Life of a Showgirl" contains the same 12-song tracklist, with no bonus material on any format. This guarantees all listeners receive an identical musical experience, shifting the emphasis of differentiation squarely onto the physical collectibility of the items, such as unique artwork and packaging. This strategy mirrors the approach of her official webstore, where multiple exclusive editions sold out within minutes, underscoring the powerful market for physical Swift collectibles even in a predominantly digital music landscape.
