Yusuf / Cat Stevens North American Tour Postponed Due to Visa Issues
The North American portion of Yusuf / Cat Stevens's "Cat on the Road to Findout" Book Tour has been called off due to unexpected visa problems. In a personal statement, the artist revealed that his team had spent months attempting to secure the necessary clearances, but the protracted delays ultimately rendered it unfeasible to organize the intricate production for his live concerts in time for the planned October dates. He expressed profound disappointment, especially for his loyal supporters who had bought tickets and made travel arrangements.
Yusuf, the musician responsible for timeless 1970s folk-pop anthems like "Wild World" and "Morning Has Broken," did leave the door open for a future rescheduling of the North American shows, provided the visa situation is cleared up. He tempered expectations, however, by noting that any new dates are "some time away" because of prior touring obligations elsewhere. On a more positive note, he confirmed that his memoir's publication is proceeding as planned, wryly observing that "the obvious benefit of it being — books don’t need visas!"
The precise cause of the visa impasse remains undisclosed, though the current stringent U.S. immigration environment is a likely contributor. This development is especially delicate in light of a contentious 1989 statement from Yusuf, who publicly supported Ayatollah Khomeini's fatwa against author Salman Rushdie after the release of "The Satanic Verses." Yusuf, who converted to Islam in the late 1970s and changed his name from Cat Stevens, has since claimed his remarks were misunderstood and has dedicated years to softening his public persona. Dr. Anya Sharma, a cultural historian, notes, "This situation underscores the persistent challenges that artists with complex histories can encounter when dealing with international travel, even many years after the fact."
In recent times, Yusuf has actively sought to mend his standing within the artistic world. A key moment in this reconciliation was the 2020 virtual CatSong Festival, a pandemic-era gathering that saw more than 40 acclaimed performers—including Haim, Jack Johnson, and Feist—paying tribute to his songbook and honoring his enduring influence. His eagerly awaited memoir, "Cat On The Road To Findout," is still set for its U.K. release on October 2nd, guaranteeing that his audience will have a fresh avenue to engage with his extraordinary life story.
