Doja Cat to Perform at LACMA Art+Film

This year's LACMA Art+Film Gala will feature a headline performance by the eclectic pop phenomenon Doja Cat. The November 2nd fundraiser, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, will pay tribute to director Ryan Coogler and visual artist Mary Corse. Gala co-chair Eva Chow explained the selection, noting that Doja Cat's unique artistic vision ensures a vibrant performance that fits the event's 14-year legacy of showcasing diverse musical acts.

Presented by Gucci and co-chaired by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the gala spotlights a homegrown talent. Doja Cat, a Los Angeles native, first gained attention a decade ago, but her career exploded with the 2018 viral sensation "Mooo!". This online success paved the way for her mainstream ascent, which was solidified by her 2019 platinum-certified album "Hot Pink." That record spawned international hits like "Say So" and "Streaks," establishing her as a formidable and unpredictable force in modern pop music.

Her prolific creative output has continued at a remarkable pace. Following the chart-topping success of 2021's "Planet Her" on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart, she recently headlined the 2024 Coachella festival and released the deluxe edition of "Scarlet 2 Claude." Her relentless innovation is a defining trait; as music analyst Anya Sharma observes, "She consistently fuses mainstream pop with experimental aesthetics, making her a conceptually perfect choice for an event dedicated to artistic fusion." This is further evidenced by her latest work, her fifth studio album "Vie."

The core mission of the Art+Film Gala is to raise essential funds that enable LACMA to more deeply integrate film into its curatorial programming. The proceeds support a wide array of initiatives, from acquiring new artworks and mounting major exhibitions to funding public education and film series that investigate the dialogue between cinematic and traditional visual arts. The event is a fixture on the Los Angeles social scene, consistently drawing a glittering crowd of A-list celebrities from the worlds of film, music, fashion, and fine art.

Set against the backdrop of the nearly finished David Geffen Galleries, the 2024 gala offers a preview of the museum's ambitious future. This monumental new building, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor, is scheduled to open to the public in April 2026. Its radical, horizontal design is expected to fundamentally reshape the museum-going experience. For LACMA—the largest art museum in the western United States—this architectural landmark represents a significant investment in its identity as a leading global cultural institution.
