Show moreTaylor Swift Breaks Her Own Spotify Record for Most Streams in a Single Day With ‘The Fate of Ophelia’
Within a single day of its debut, Taylor Swift's new album "The Life of a Showgirl" has already driven its lead single to a historic Spotify achievement. The track "The Fate of Ophelia" has broken the platform's record for the most streams in a 24-hour period, surpassing the previous benchmark of over 25 million streams set just months earlier by Swift's own "Fortnight" in April 2024.
This latest feat highlights the artist's sustained market command. Mark Davies, a noted industry analyst, remarked, "This pattern of record-breaking is not accidental; it reflects a meticulously planned release cycle and a connection with her audience that is arguably peerless today." The single-day streaming record has been a hotly contested title. Before "Ophelia's" rise, Adele's powerful 2021 comeback single "Easy on Me"—from her album '30', which dealt with themes of divorce and introspection—held a strong position with close to 20 million streams. If its current trajectory holds, "Ophelia" is now a serious contender to challenge Miley Cyrus's "Flowers" for the most-streamed song of the week.
The album itself achieved a parallel victory, securing the title of Spotify's most-streamed album in a single day for 2025 in less than twelve hours. This massive debut was anticipated by immense fan engagement, with Spotify reporting that the album shattered its pre-save record as more than five million users added it to their libraries prior to its release. This success extends a pattern of chart supremacy for Swift, whose prior album "The Tortured Poets Department" was the platform's most-streamed album of 2025, outperforming significant new works from both Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter.
Even before this new project's arrival, Swift was a dominant force in Spotify's record books, occupying seven of the top ten spots for most-streamed songs in a day with entries from "The Tortured Poets Department" and her 2022 pop masterpiece "Midnights." This new 12-track collection, first revealed to the public in August, was supported by an extensive promotional blitz. A central element was "The Official Release Party of a Showgirl," a cinematic event that premiered the "Ophelia" music video, exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and a suite of lyric videos. To maintain the album's powerful initial surge, Swift is scheduled for a series of prominent television appearances in the coming days, including spots on "Late Night With Seth Meyers" and the UK's popular chat show "The Graham Norton Show."
