Taylor Swift Takes Over ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’: Wedding Invites, ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Stories and Travis Kelce’s Botched Intro to Greta Gerwig

Taylor Swift concluded the promotional run for her new album, "The Life of a Showgirl," with a final appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers." The episode was Meyers' 1,713th, a number whose digits sum to 12—a deliberate nod to the title of Swift's 12th studio album and a subtle callback to her well-known affinity for the number 13. This numerical alignment provided a fitting tribute to the numerological themes that have become a hallmark of her career.

Their conversation covered her record-shattering album, which had just hours earlier become the most-consumed album in a single week. They also discussed her self-directed video for "Fate of Ophelia," which brought together dancers and backup singers from the historic Eras Tour. In a revealing moment, Swift shared that she played the unreleased album for her dancers before the shoot, trusting them completely. "Anyone who was part of the Eras tour understands how to keep things confidential," she remarked, highlighting the deep trust within her touring ensemble.

Looking back on the Eras Tour, Swift admitted to feeling a bit of FOMO as she watched the VIP section from the stage each night. She recalled a specific London performance where her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, was seated among a celebrity group that included Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Tom Cruise, Hugh Grant, and director Greta Gerwig—whom Swift identified as Kelce's favorite filmmaker. "He’s a huge fan of Greta Gerwig. He admires her films and her creative range," she explained. During their usual post-concert chat, Kelce mentioned his disappointment that Gerwig hadn't laughed at his "Barbie" joke, where he told a woman he thought was Gerwig, "I love 'Barbie.' I’m just Ken, too," while gesturing toward Swift. It was only after seeing fan footage that Swift realized the mix-up. "Think about it," she recalled telling him. "Is there any possibility, sweetheart, that you complimented Hugh Grant’s wife, Anna, on a movie she didn't direct, and she just nodded politely?"

With the Eras Tour finished and the "Showgirl" album cycle winding down, Swift is now turning her attention to wedding planning. Meyers jokingly suggested various invitation formats—from digital to framed prints, since "people will frame them regardless"—and even offered to take credit for the idea to save Swift from any accusations of being pretentious. The discussion also touched on other stories, like a call from her head of security during the Palisades fire to report that Zoë Kravitz’s snake had gotten loose in her home, her new interest in baking bread, and her first meeting with Meyers back in 2009 when she hosted Saturday Night Live. "Hosting SNL at 19 was the most thrilling experience of my life up to that point," she reflected. They looked back on her "Twilight"-themed sketch from that episode, which humorously targeted one of the era's most iconic film series. "Looking back now, I feel incredibly fortunate that we got to create something tied to such a cultural touchstone as 'Twilight' in 2009," she added. She joked that the frantic pace of that SNL week prepared her for the rapid costume changes of the Eras Tour. "That was definitely the most costume changes I’d ever done," Swift said. "It gave me the confidence that I could handle the Eras Tour. If I could get through that, I could get through anything."

That same sense of preparedness has carried her into this new era—the release of her 12th album, which she describes as her personal favorite. "This has been the most joyful album release of my career," Swift stated, bringing a celebratory and deeply satisfying close to this chapter. Industry experts point out that this album's performance extends her pattern of chart dominance; each of her last five studio albums has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, underscoring her sustained commercial appeal.
