Sabrina Carpenter Jokes About Provocative Image in ‘SNL’ Monologue: ‘I’m Not Just Horny, I’m Also Turned On and Sexually Charged’
Show moreTaylor Swift’s ‘Showgirl’ Stays at No. 1 in Week 2 With 338,000 Units, the Fifth-Best Weekly Tally for Any Album This Year
In a move that surprised no one, Taylor Swift's latest album, "The Life of a Showgirl," maintained its position at the summit of the Billboard 200 chart for a second consecutive week. The release amassed 338,000 equivalent album units, a figure that, while representing a predictable decline from its historic 4.002 million-unit debut, still ranks as the fifth-best weekly performance for any album released this year.
This second-week tally was only surpassed by the debut numbers of a select few artists: Wallen, the Weeknd, Sabrina Carpenter, and Swift's own record-breaking first week. A detailed breakdown reveals that pure album sales constituted 101,000 of the total units. Billboard reported this as a 97% drop from the first week, which was fueled by extensive pre-orders and limited-edition variants. Despite this sharp decline, achieving six-figure pure sales in the current streaming-dominated market is a feat most contemporary artists can only dream of, allowing "Showgirl" to easily retain the top spot on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart.
Streaming proved to be a much more stable pillar of support. The album's tracks garnered a colossal 307.59 million on-demand official streams, translating to 236,000 SEA (streaming equivalent album) units. This represented a comparatively modest 55% decrease from its debut week, cementing the album's return to number one on the Top Streaming Albums chart. This consistent streaming power is a hallmark of Swift's career, a strategy she has masterfully honed since her strategic re-recording project began in 2021, which itself created a new paradigm for artist ownership in the industry.
Looking ahead, the path seems clear for "The Life of a Showgirl" to enjoy a prolonged chart dominance. Morgan Wallen's "I'm the Problem" managed a dozen non-consecutive weeks at number one earlier this year, a run Swift will undoubtedly aim to replicate. As one music industry analyst noted, "The release calendar for the next 18 months is conspicuously lacking in pop blockbusters that could challenge this kind of momentum. Barring an unexpected surprise release from another A-list star, Swift's reign could extend well into 2025."
