‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Star EJAE Signs With WME

In a significant career development, the multitalented singer-songwriter EJAE has entered into a worldwide representation agreement with the prestigious talent agency WME, which will now oversee all aspects of her music career. This pivotal move comes on the heels of her extensive creative work on the animated blockbuster "KPop Demon Hunters," where she not only co-wrote the soundtrack and performed as the singing voice for the protagonist Rumi but also played a key role in the project's overarching musical direction. This comprehensive involvement cements her status as a uniquely versatile artist.

Her songwriting contributions to the film were prolific, featuring the chart-topping single "Golden" alongside other tracks such as "How It's Done," "What It Sounds Like," and "Your Idol"—the latter created for the fictional boy band Saja Boys. She also composed the pivotal "Hunter's Mantra," a piece integral to the movie's storyline. In an interview with Variety, EJAE emphasized the advantage of her bilingual abilities, noting, "Being bilingual was one of the greatest strengths I brought to the film and the songwriting process. I identify primarily as a songwriter, not a pop star. My approach is melodically driven, and I draw inspiration from other songwriters, weaving those influences into my own creations."

The commercial impact of her work has been record-breaking. The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack made Billboard history by becoming the first ever to place four songs—"Golden," "Your Idol," "Soda Pop," and "How It's Done"—simultaneously in the Top 10. "Golden" itself held the number one spot on the Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks, setting a new record for the longest-running chart-topper by an animated act. Pop culture historian Dr. Lena Cho remarked, "This achievement marks a turning point where a film’s music becomes a core element of its identity and market success, echoing the cultural impact of the 'Frozen' soundtrack a decade prior."

Recognition for EJAE’s songwriting prowess continues to grow. She was selected for Variety’s 10 Artisans to Watch list in the songwriting category and is set to be honored at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Her recent television appearances include a standout live performance of "Golden" on "The Tonight Show" and a comedic sketch on "Saturday Night Live." Additionally, "Golden" secured the Best Original Soundtrack award at the K-World Dream Awards and earned a Song of the Summer nomination at the MTV Video Music Awards, building on her previous 2022 Hollywood Music in Media Awards nomination for her work on "Rebirth" for the video game "League of Legends."

Beyond her film success, EJAE has an extensive background in the K-pop industry, having written, vocal-directed, and provided backing vocals for top-tier groups. Her credits include Aespa’s "Drama" and "Armageddon," Red Velvet’s signature hit "Psycho," and collaborations with Le Sserafim, Twice, Taeyeon, Nmixx, and Fifty Fifty. Looking forward, she has voiced ambitions to contribute to innovative cinematic ventures, specifically citing an interest in projects with the visual and narrative flair of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" or composing for a future James Bond film. Such goals underscore her rising influence as a composer capable of defining the sonic landscape for major global franchises.
