Kendrick Lamar Comedy With ‘South Park’ Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone Removed From March Release Date: ‘We’re Working Hard at Finishing the Movie’

Paramount Pictures has removed its highly awaited live-action comedy from the release calendar, a project developed by Kendrick Lamar in collaboration with "South Park" masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The film, which was originally scheduled to open in theaters on March 20, has been postponed indefinitely as the creative team continues refining the final version.

A joint statement issued by Paramount on behalf of Parker and Stone’s Park County and Lamar’s PGLang confirmed the delay, noting, "We’re moving once more – it’s true. Everyone is hard at work finishing the film," and emphasizing the group’s focus on delivering a polished final product. Blending Lamar’s Pulitzer Prize–winning musical artistry with the biting satire characteristic of Parker and Stone requires meticulous fine-tuning, a process that frequently extends post-production for ambitious cross-genre projects.

The collaboration was first announced in the summer of 2022, instantly generating buzz by uniting three of the most inventive forces in modern entertainment. Industry analyst Ben Carter of Silver Screen Analytics observed, "When creators of this caliber join forces, the goal isn’t just a box office success—it’s a cultural event. Delays can be frustrating, but they often signal a refusal to compromise on creative vision."

Kendrick Lamar—whose 2022 album "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers" received a Grammy and widespread praise—is expanding his film footprint via PGLang, the multimedia company he runs with Dave Free. For Parker and Stone, the film marks another creative departure from "South Park," following their earlier stage triumph with the Tony Award–winning musical "The Book of Mormon." As of now, Paramount has not provided a new premiere date.
