Summer Walker’s ‘Finally Over It’ Lands at No. 2 With Year’s Biggest Debut for a Female R&B Artist

Summer Walker's new album, "Finally Over It," has made a powerful entrance on the Billboard 200, landing at No. 2 and achieving the year's biggest R&B debut by a female artist. The 18-track project, which completes her widely praised trilogy, earned 77,000 equivalent album units in its first week. These figures were driven by an estimated 92 million on-demand streams and 8,000 in traditional sales, marking the fourth top 10 appearance on the chart for the Atlanta-born singer.

Featuring high-profile collaborations with artists like Chris Brown, Anderson .Paak, Bryson Tiller, and Mariah the Scientist, the album's performance was further amplified by the release of two deluxe editions. These included new tracks such as "Session 34 (Mona Lisa)" and a fresh take on "Session 32," which were initially offered exclusively on iTunes. According to industry analyst Liam Croft of Chart Data, "Walker’s rollout strategy—blending major features with platform-specific content—illustrates a savvy, contemporary method for boosting chart performance and deepening listener connection in today's competitive landscape." This approach reflects a broader industry trend where limited-time exclusives and tiered releases help sustain listener interest and chart momentum.

Summer Walker, whose 2019 debut "Over It" also entered at No. 2 before she reached No. 1 with 2021’s "Still Over It," has built a reputation for emotionally candid songwriting and a signature fusion of R&B and neo-soul. Her consistent commercial success reflects a deeply devoted fanbase that has grown with each release. Walker’s ability to connect through raw, personal themes has made her one of the most resonant voices in modern R&B.

Elsewhere on the chart, Christian rapper NF debuted at No. 4 with his new album "Fear," earning nearly 76,000 units and marking his fifth consecutive top 10 album. His total included approximately 48,000 pure sales and 37 million streams. Meanwhile, pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer entered at No. 6 with "Everyone’s a Star!," collecting 51,000 units and securing their seventh top 10 album. The group’s figures were supported by 41,000 in album sales and over 11 million streams.

Taylor Swift’s "The Life of a Showgirl" held the No. 1 position for a seventh consecutive week, maintaining its reign with 93,000 equivalent album units and just over 98 million streams. This sustained performance underscores Swift’s powerful presence in the industry and sets a challenging benchmark for any new release hoping to claim the top spot. Her continued dominance highlights how established artists with loyal followings can maintain chart longevity even amid strong new competition.
