Kim Sejeong Returns With Remake Single ‘Solar System’

Following a two-year musical break, actor-singer Kim Sejeong has made her return with the single album "Solar System." This release is a reinterpretation of veteran ballad singer Sung Si Kyung's 2011 track of the same name, serving as her first music since her 2023 debut studio album, "Door." Kim Sejeong, managed by Jellyfish Entertainment, has become a prominent figure in Korean entertainment. Initially debuting in the popular 2016 project group I.O.I, she later performed with the girl group gugudan before fully transitioning into a successful acting career.

"I devoted significant effort to this single, hoping to push the boundaries of my vocal abilities since it's my first release in some time," Kim commented. She expressed a desire for the music to connect widely with listeners. To reinvent the classic song's melancholic feel, she teamed up with renowned producer and musician Jukjae. He explained their creative goal was to transform the original's signature sorrow into the introspective monologue of an actor beginning a narrative. "The profound meaning within the lyrics and the breaths between words remains mysterious, so the production involved constant deliberation over tone and progression," Jukjae noted. He added that by using acoustic instruments to emulate the shimmer of planets, they aimed to create a listening experience where the audience breathes in sync with Sejeong's performance.

This musical comeback follows Kim's recent leading role in the MBC historical fantasy drama "Moon River," which premiered on November 7. Industry analysts suggest that releasing a remake of a beloved ballad is a strategic move, allowing her to showcase vocal maturity while appealing to both her existing fanbase and a broader audience familiar with the original. The single also initiates her planned activities for 2026.

A key component of those plans is her upcoming "2026 Kim Sejeong Fan Concert: Tenth Letter" tour. The tour is scheduled to commence in Seoul on January 10, 2026, before visiting international cities including Taipei, Melbourne, Sydney, Manila, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Yokohama. This extensive tour underscores her strong popularity across Asia, built on her acclaimed acting work. Her notable television leads in hits like "Business Proposal," "The Uncanny Counter," and "School 2017" have earned her the Asian Artist Award for best actor in both 2022 and 2023, solidifying her status as a dual-threat entertainer with a dedicated global following.
