Warner Music Promotes Eric Wong to Executive VP of Recorded Music

Eric Wong has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Recorded Music at Warner Music Group. In this elevated role, he will maintain his current positions as President of both East West Records U.S. and Warner Music Canada. Based in New York and reporting directly to CEO Robert Kyncl, Wong's expanded mandate involves spearheading global marketing campaigns and worldwide A&R strategy, requiring close coordination with the corporation's extensive network of labels and artist rosters.

CEO Robert Kyncl, who took the helm at Warner Music in 2023 following a long career shaping digital strategy at YouTube, commended Wong's track record. "Over his five years in senior leadership, Eric has proven essential in strengthening ties between our labels and international markets," Kyncl said. Industry observers note that creating roles like Wong's reflects a strategic pivot for major labels, which are increasingly centralizing global operations to better leverage streaming data and cultivate artists with worldwide appeal. Kyncl added, "His deep understanding of global trends, combined with marketing acumen and industry relationships, makes him ideal to lead this charge as we intensify our focus on international artist growth."

Wong's recent work leading East West Records U.S. was cited as a key factor in his promotion. The label, originally founded in 1955 and later revived as a modern imprint, has recently seen success with artists like Karan Aujla, whose album 'P-Pop Culture' hit No. 3 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart—a testament to the cross-border strategy Wong champions. Over the past year, he has focused on building a unified creative framework within Warner, synchronizing efforts across territories to transform regional hits into global phenomena and secure international opportunities for artists.

His leadership extends to the Canadian market, where he became President of Warner Music Canada last September. There, he has worked to align U.S. and Canadian strategies, including appointing new executives to strengthen local operations. Previously, as WMG's Chief Marketing Officer for Recorded Music, Wong directed worldwide campaigns and improved collaboration across over 70 international markets, playing an instrumental part in major rollouts for global stars such as Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay.

Prior to joining Warner, Wong built nearly a decade of experience at Universal Music Group, most recently as Chief Operating Officer of the legendary Island Records. This tenure at a direct competitor provides him with a valuable, broad-based perspective on the music industry, which he now applies to his complex, multi-faceted responsibilities guiding Warner's global recorded music strategy.
