Show moreRobyn Announces New Album ‘Sexistential,’ Releases Title Track and ‘Talk to Me’
Swedish pop pioneer Robyn will release her ninth studio album, "Sexistential," on March 27 through her Young label. This marks her first full-length record since 2018's critically acclaimed "Honey." Primarily crafted with longtime creative partner Klas Åhlund, the album's sonic identity is described by Robyn as akin to "a spaceship coming through the atmosphere at a really high speed and crash landing." She connects this intense imagery to a deeply personal creative philosophy, noting that the process of exploring her sensual life mirrors the feeling of crafting a compelling song. For Robyn, who rose to global fame in the late 90s with hits like "Show Me Love," this profound engagement with experience remains a central artistic fuel.
The announcement arrived with two contrasting singles that highlight the project's scope. The title track, "Sexistential," is a boldly narrative rap detailing one-night stands during an IVF pregnancy, a concept Robyn pursued after hearing Andre 3000's comment that no one would want a "colonoscopy rap." The second single, "Talk to Me," born from pandemic isolation, underscores a longing for connection through conversation. Its production is particularly notable, marking Robyn's first studio collaboration with pop mastermind Max Martin in over a decade, since their work on 2010's "Body Talk" series. The track also features production from Åhlund and Oscar Holter, with a companion video directed by Casper Sejersen.
This new chapter follows a resurgence in Robyn's public profile, including a performance on CNN's New Year's Eve Live and a series of sold-out concerts at New York's historic Brooklyn Paramount theater. Industry analysts view "Sexistential" as a logical yet ambitious next step. "Robyn has always occupied a rare space where experimental art-pop meets the dance floor," observes music critic Liam Frost. "Her partnership with Åhlund, which yielded the timeless anthem 'Dancing On My Own,' has repeatedly proven that emotional complexity and massive pop appeal are not mutually exclusive. This album seems poised to challenge that formula once again." The tracklist suggests a journey from introspection to release, bookended by the previously shared, pulsating single "Dopamine."
The complete tracklist for "Sexistential" is as follows: 1. Really Real, 2. Dopamine, 3. Blow My Mind, 4. Sucker For Love, 5. It Don’t Mean A Thing, 6. Talk To Me, 7. Sexistential, 8. Light Up, 9. Into The Sun. The album's rollout signals a confident return for an artist whose influence on contemporary electronic pop, from Lorde to Charli XCX, is widely acknowledged, setting the stage for one of 2025's most anticipated releases.
