Show moreNBA YoungBoy Concert Documentary by ‘In Whose Name?’ Director Nico Ballesteros in Production With Foundation Media Partners (EXCLUSIVE)
Chart-topping rapper NBA YoungBoy will be the subject of an upcoming concert documentary, a joint venture between Foundation Media Partners and the artist's newly established production company, 38 Films. The film, to be directed by Nico Ballesteros for both entities, promises to blend live performance with a deeper narrative. Producers indicate it will not only showcase the scale of his influence but also provide an intimate look at the realities of touring at the pinnacle of fame.
Patrick Hughes, CEO of Foundation Media Partners, emphasized the project's scope. "NBA YoungBoy is not just an artist — he’s a cultural force," Hughes stated. "Through Nico’s vision, this film captures that energy honestly and cinematically, while giving audiences a real window into who he is beyond the stage." Ballesteros recently directed the theatrical documentary "In Whose Name?," which tracked six years in the life of the controversial superstar Ye, formerly Kanye West.
The timing for such a documentary appears opportune, given YoungBoy's formidable current metrics. He currently holds the number one position on YouTube's weekly top artists chart, amassing a staggering 47.8 million weekly views. This figure nearly doubles the 25-27 million views each garnered by his closest competitors, Drake, Morgan Wallen, and Bad Bunny. His commercial power extends to touring, where Pollstar recently ranked his global tour as the 13th biggest, with an average gross of $1.6 million per city. This consistent draw underscores what industry analyst Maria Chen of SoundScan Insights notes: "YoungBoy's digital dominance and touring success reveal a fan engagement that transcends traditional media, making him an ideal subject for a documentary that explores the modern music ecosystem."
This announcement follows other major news for the artist this week. He was confirmed as a headliner for the sole U.S. Rolling Loud festival of the year, set for Orlando from May 8-10, where he will close the event on its final night. Musically, he just released the new single "Creep Up on Ya," with a full album expected soon. His previous studio album, "MASA," debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release in July.
Foundation Media Partners, which previously collaborated with Ballesteros on the Ye documentary, has a diverse portfolio that includes the animated "Bad Guys" film series. The company has also expanded into publishing, launching Foundation Books in partnership with Macmillan Publishers in 2025. No specific release date has been set for the NBA YoungBoy documentary. According to the project announcement, Foundation and 38 Films are currently formulating a distribution strategy intended to include both a theatrical run and a subsequent streaming release.
