This year's "Night Before" Oscar benefit, the 24th annual fundraiser for the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF), will be led by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chairs and CEOs Pamela Abdy and Michael De Luca. The event is scheduled for March 14 in Los Angeles and will feature a headline performance from Grammy-winning artist Diplo.
The MPTF, a cornerstone Hollywood institution founded in 1921 by luminaries including Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin, offers a vital safety net. It provides financial aid, retirement housing, and healthcare services to entertainment industry professionals. In a joint statement, Abdy and De Luca emphasized their commitment, noting, "Helping to steer this celebration is a privilege, as the MPTF's work in supporting our community at every career stage is indispensable."
Corporate backing for the 2024 gala is already strong, with premier sponsors including City National Bank, Delta Air Lines, L'Oreal Groupe, and UCLA Health. This consistent support is critical for the charity's operations. "The reliable participation of these major brands does more than raise funds; it provides the MPTF with the financial stability needed for strategic initiatives and crisis support for crew members, writers, and other behind-the-scenes workers," commented industry philanthropy expert Maria Chen. The full celebrity host committee will be announced at a later date.
The fundraiser follows a highly successful 2023 event, which raised an estimated $4 million under the leadership of co-chairs Demi Moore, Colman Domingo, and Cynthia Erivo. That gala's prestigious host committee featured figures like Denzel Washington and Jamie Lee Curtis, with a guest list populated by stars such as Anna Kendrick and Paris Hilton. This established tradition highlights the industry's capacity to mobilize its considerable resources and star power for charitable causes on the eve of its most globally watched ceremony.
