Show moreCJ Enm Partners With JYP, Tencent Music to Launch Greater China-Focused Onecead Venture
CJ Enm, a major Korean entertainment conglomerate, has joined forces with JYP Entertainment's China division and Tencent Music Entertainment (TME) to establish a new joint venture named Onecead. This strategic partnership, formalized through the existing entity NCC Entertainment—itself a collaboration between JYP China and TME—is squarely aimed at cultivating musical talent for the expansive Greater China region. The venture's scope is broad, covering core artist development and management with ambitions to later branch into music production, live concerts, and merchandising.
The first act to be managed under the Onecead banner is Modyssey, a seven-member boy band. The group was formed through the survival competition "Planet C: Home Race," an extension of Mnet's "Boys II Planet" franchise that concluded in late December. The show garnered millions of global votes to finalize its lineup, which consists of members Hengyu, Fan Zheyi, Li Zihao, Lynnlynn, Suren, Yichen, and Rowan. This model of creating groups through televised competitions has proven highly effective for CJ Enm in other markets.
Indeed, Onecead represents a deliberate replication of CJ Enm's successful Japanese strategy. There, through the joint venture Lapone Entertainment, the company manages popular acts like JO1 and INI. These groups have achieved significant success not just domestically in Japan but have also cultivated fanbases across Asia, demonstrating CJ Enm's proven formula for developing local talent with cross-border appeal. Industry analyst Min-ji Park notes, "CJ Enm is expertly localizing a production system that has dominated K-pop, adapting it to new markets with deep industry partnerships. This reduces risk and leverages existing fan engagement mechanisms."
The ultimate goal for Onecead is to build a comprehensive music business ecosystem. By combining CJ Enm's expertise in content production and global promotion with JYP China's on-the-ground artist development experience and TME's unparalleled digital distribution network and regional infrastructure, the venture is well-positioned for growth. TME, as China's leading online music platform, provides a critical launchpad for new artists in the world's most populous market.
CJ Enm's involvement brings considerable weight to the partnership. The Seoul-based giant operates across media content, music, film, and performing arts. Its portfolio includes backing the Oscar-winning film "Parasite," operating the Korean streaming service TVING, and managing K-pop acts such as Zerobaseone. The company also organizes major industry events like the KCON fan festivals and the MAMA Awards, providing a potential global stage for Onecead's future artists.
