Show moreBTS ‘Arirang’ World Tour to Stream Live in Cinemas Globally
This April, the launch of BTS's landmark "Arirang" World Tour will be broadcast to movie theaters globally through a collaboration involving HYBE, BigHit Music, and Trafalgar Releasing. The cinematic event will showcase two complete concerts: the tour opener in Goyang, South Korea on April 11, and a subsequent show from Tokyo, Japan on April 18. To serve fans across different time zones, each territory will screen both events twice. This initiative marks the group's first tour since their 2021-2022 "Permission to Dance on Stage" series, concluding a chapter where members pursued individual projects.
The tour itself is a record-breaking endeavor for K-pop, spanning an unprecedented 82 dates across 34 cities. It is designed around a pioneering 360-degree, in-the-round stage intended to immerse the audience fully in the performance. The concerts will promote BTS's upcoming fifth studio album, also named "Arirang," which is scheduled for release on March 20. The group, which debuted in 2013, is managed by HYBE—a company founded by chairman Bang Si-hyuk that has evolved from a single music label into a dominant global entertainment conglomerate with interests in music, technology, and media.
Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, emphasized the cultural impact of the project. "We are turning a pivotal moment in music into a worldwide cinematic celebration," he stated, adding that the massive fan response to the tour news confirmed the value of deepening their partnership with HYBE. The distributor, known for handling the record-shattering "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" film, connects to over 15,000 venues in 132 countries. This model is increasingly seen as vital for artist revenue and fan community building. As media analyst Dr. Lena Cho observes, "These broadcasts serve a dual purpose: they provide access to fans priced out or geographically excluded from live events, while simultaneously creating a powerful ancillary market that amplifies a tour's financial and cultural reach long after the final encore."
BTS's influence is underscored by a remarkable chart history, including six Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles since 2020 and five Grammy nominations over three consecutive years. Their accolades span major awards like the Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards. This sustained success demonstrates a fan engagement strategy that consistently fuels large-scale ventures, from world tours to cinematic releases, proving their impact extends far beyond conventional music metrics.
Looking ahead, Trafalgar Releasing plans to announce further live cinema broadcasts for later in 2025. This staggered release approach aims to sustain momentum for both the "Arirang" tour and album, offering multiple occasions for fan congregations throughout the year and potentially drawing in new audiences with each successive cinematic event.
