Country Singer Riley Green Joins ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘Marshals’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Riley Green, the acclaimed country music star and CMA and ACM Award winner, is stepping in front of the camera. He has been cast in a recurring role for the new CBS drama "Marshals," a direct spinoff from the hit series "Yellowstone." The show will follow Kayce Dutton's new career with a specialized U.S. Marshals unit in Montana. For Green, best known for chart-toppers like "There Was This Girl," this marks his official acting debut.

Green will portray Garrett, a former Navy SEAL who arrives unexpectedly at the ranch seeking help from old friends Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green). His mission is to finally face the unhealed wounds from his past. The singer noted that collaborating with his friend Grimes made the unfamiliar process particularly enjoyable, describing it as a perfect first foray into television. This casting underscores a growing trend of musicians transitioning to prestige TV, a move often praised by casting directors for bringing authentic charisma and a built-in audience to a project.

The "Yellowstone" universe, masterminded by writer-director Taylor Sheridan, has redefined television's portrayal of the contemporary American West. "Marshals," produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, will leverage Kayce's unique blend of skills as a cowboy and ex-Navy SEAL to deliver justice. The series' official logline emphasizes how the high-stakes job compels Kayce and his team to grapple with the heavy psychological toll of their work. This thematic focus on trauma and duty creates a natural narrative fit for a character like Garrett, allowing the show to explore the profound personal sacrifices inherent in law enforcement.

Green joins a roster that includes Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means. They will be alongside returning "Yellowstone" favorites, including Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, with Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham back as key figures from the Broken Rock Reservation. The executive production team is led by Taylor Sheridan—whose prolific output for Paramount includes not only the "Yellowstone" saga but also acclaimed series like "Mayor of Kingstown" and "Tulsa King"—and includes David Glasser, John Linson, and star Luke Grimes.

The series premiere is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. This launch is a strategic move by the network to leverage a proven franchise; while "Yellowstone" itself airs on the Paramount Network, its success has been a cornerstone for the Paramount+ streaming service, driven by popular prequels like "1883" and "1923." By placing a new spinoff on broadcast television, CBS aims to capture the franchise's dedicated viewership while potentially reaching new demographics. Casting a star like Riley Green, whose loyal fanbase may not typically watch network procedurals, is a calculated effort to broaden the show's appeal from its very first episode.
