Show moreKid Rock Predicts God Will ‘Cut Down’ Journalists for Reporting (Accurately) That He’s Charging Up to $5,000 for Tour Tickets
Kid Rock has fired back at media coverage of his "Freedom 250 Tour" ticket prices, accusing outlets of deceptive reporting. The artist responded on social media to stories focusing on a $5,000 top-tier seat cost, confirming the number but condemning the presentation as sensationalist by what he called the "fake liberal media." His statement included a pointed message for journalists: "I WILL pray for them, but I know that sooner or later God will cut ‘em down."
Providing crucial detail, the musician—born Robert James Ritchie—clarified that only an extremely limited quantity of seats command that premium. For each arena show, a mere 20 spots in the entire venue, specifically four seats in each of the first five rows, are priced between $1,000 and $5,000. Ritchie, who rose to fame with his 1998 breakthrough single "Bawitdaba," emphasized these tickets offer no VIP perks; their value lies exclusively in their prime location. He positions this pricing model as a fan-first tactic to combat scalpers, capturing premium revenue directly rather than letting it flow to the secondary market. This reflects a wider trend in live entertainment economics where artists use variable pricing to control inventory.
The initial on-sale data suggests concertgoers are largely bypassing the most expensive options. For the tour opener on May 1 at Dallas's American Airlines Center—a venue with a capacity of over 20,000 for concerts—none of the $5,000 seats had sold at the time of reporting, though some priced between $1,000 and $4,000 were purchased. A similar pattern emerged for a May 8 date in Raleigh at the PNC Arena, where the top three price tiers remained available while all four $1,000 seats and several at $2,000 sold. Conversely, demand is robust for more accessible tickets, with $50 lawn seats and $100 standard seats available. In Raleigh, entire sections of $200 seats sold out rapidly, while many $500 tickets lingered, highlighting a market preference for mid-range pricing.
This public dispute continues Kid Rock's history of confrontational engagement, aligning with his well-documented political stance as a vocal supporter of Donald Trump. The controversy follows another attention-grabbing stunt: a recent promotional video for a "Make America Healthy" initiative featuring Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In the viral clip, a shirtless Ritchie flips off the camera before joining Kennedy in a sauna. This provocative image stands in sharp contrast to a significant career milestone he just achieved. Kid Rock recently scored his first number-one hit on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart with his version of "'Til You Can’t," a rework of Cody Johnson's country song that includes a new verse about faith. This dual reality—the politically charged rocker and the chart-topping Christian artist—exemplifies his unique and enduring position in American pop culture.
