Show moreLucy Dickins Stepping Down From WME’s Contemporary Music Division
Lucy Dickins is leaving her position as co-head of the contemporary music and touring division at the talent giant WME. The departure was announced internally in a memo from co-chairman Christian Muirhead, which was obtained by Variety. While the memo did not specify a cause, sources indicate her contract had simply concluded. According to a report from the industry publication Hits, Dickins may be preparing to move to rival agency CAA. WME representatives offered no additional comment on the matter.
In his note, Muirhead praised Dickins for her seven years of leadership, a tenure that spanned the unprecedented disruption of the global pandemic for the live events industry. She initially played a crucial role in bolstering WME's operations in London before relocating to Los Angeles during the health crisis to assume wider duties. Following the industry's reopening, her efforts were instrumental in securing major artist signings and developing innovative touring strategies. With her exit, her former co-head, Kirk Sommer, will assume sole leadership of the division.
Dickins comes from a deeply influential British music dynasty. She moved to WME in 2019 after spending over twenty years at International Booking Talent (ITB), the agency co-founded by her father, Barry Dickins. Her family's legacy is extensive: her grandfather, Percy Dickins, was a co-founder of the iconic New Musical Express (NME), a publication that defined music journalism for generations. Her uncle, Rob Dickins, held the role of chairman at Warner Music UK for many years, and her brother, Jonathan Dickins, manages the iconic singer Adele. Lucy Dickins's own 2022 promotion was a landmark, making her the first woman to hold a global head role in contemporary music at a major agency. Her client list has featured luminaries like Adele, the breakout country star Zach Bryan, and the acclaimed singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton.
This departure marks a significant shift at one of the world's leading talent firms. High-level executive moves between powerhouses like WME and CAA are watched closely, as they often signal upcoming battles for top-tier artist representation. "The movement of an executive with Lucy Dickins's pedigree and network doesn't happen in a vacuum," observed a veteran industry analyst who requested anonymity. "It often triggers a realignment of key relationships and can define the next cycle of touring deals." Her next move is therefore expected to send substantial ripples through the live music landscape, potentially reshaping which agencies control the most lucrative global tours in the coming years.
