Love Rocks NYC Concert, With Paul Simon, Mary J. Blige, Hozier and More, Raises $6 Million-Plus for Charity
The tenth annual Love Rocks NYC benefit, backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies, secured an impressive $6 million for the nonprofit God's Love We Deliver last Thursday. This latest haul brings the total funds raised by the concert series since its inception to over $65 million, solidifying its status as a major philanthropic force. The gala's success underscores how high-profile entertainment events can create a sustainable funding model for critical social services.
A celebrated lineup spanning musical eras delivered the evening's performances. Legends like Paul Simon performed classics including "The Boxer," while Elvis Costello energized the crowd with "Pump It Up." Notable collaborations emerged, such as Costello teaming up with gospel great Mavis Staples, guitarist Warren Haynes, and Hozier for a soulful rendition of The Band's "The Weight." Hozier also sang his hit "Take Me to Church," and Mary J. Blige brought the house down with "Family Affair." The night closed with a euphoric set from Nile Rodgers & Chic; Rodgers, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee whose work with Chic and production for artists like David Bowie and Madonna defined an era, led the all-star finale through disco anthems "Good Times" and "We Are Family."
All proceeds directly fund God's Love We Deliver, an organization founded in 1985 during the height of the AIDS crisis. The charity addresses a fundamental need by preparing and delivering medically tailored meals to individuals who are too ill to shop or cook for themselves. To date, it has provided more than 40 million meals to clients confronting over 200 severe health conditions. "Our mission is simple: life is precious," said the organization's President and CEO, Terrence Meck. "When our most vulnerable neighbors are in crisis and reach out, we answer the call. This support ensures that New Yorkers facing illness never have to do so alone."
The event was hosted by a group of notable personalities, including comedians JB Smoove and Jeff Ross, actress Julianne Moore, and talk show host Whoopi Goldberg. Its executive production was handled by fashion designer John Varvatos, New York real estate broker and concert producer Greg Williamson, and events producer Nicole Rechter. The consistent multi-million dollar results of Love Rocks NYC demonstrate the powerful synergy between celebrity influence and charitable giving. As philanthropy expert Dr. Anya Sharma observed, "Events like this do more than raise immediate funds. They build brand equity for the cause, attract new donor demographics, and create a predictable revenue stream that allows nonprofits to plan ambitious, long-term programs."
