Music Industry Moves: Lucy Dickins to Join CAA
In a significant industry realignment, veteran music agent Lucy Dickins will depart rival firm WME to join Creative Artists Agency (CAA) this April. At CAA, she will serve on the managing director committee while continuing to personally represent a high-profile roster of artists. CAA Co-Chairman and CEO Bryan Lourd praised her global strategic expertise, stating she is "a tremendous business leader and exceptional agent" whose experience will enhance the agency's worldwide operations. This move highlights the intense competition among top agencies to secure influential representatives with proven client lists.
Dickins brings a formidable legacy to her new position. She is part of a storied British music dynasty: her grandfather, Percy Dickins, co-founded the influential publication New Musical Express (NME), which defined music journalism for generations. Her career foundation was laid over two decades at International Booking Talent (ITB), the U.K. agency co-founded by her father, before her tenure at WME. "I’ve long admired the vision and leadership of CAA," Dickins commented, adding her goal is to build "deep creative partnerships" to propel artists' careers internationally. Industry analyst Maria Fernandez of Music Business Worldwide notes, "Dickins's combination of lineage, relationships, and a track record of breaking artists globally makes her a strategic hire for CAA as it seeks to strengthen its international music division."
In a separate executive promotion, Warner Chappell Music has appointed Edward Matthew as Vice President of International A&R and Head of Creative for Scandinavia. Based in Stockholm, he will report to Shani Gonzales, head of international A&R, and regional managing director Lars Karlsson. This advancement follows the success of Lilly Raye Music, the publishing and management company Matthew founded in 2019, which entered a joint venture with Warner Chappell later that same year.
That partnership has yielded substantial results, generating three Grammy nominations and over ten number-one singles in Sweden for its songwriters. Warner Chappell Co-Chair and CEO Guy Moot described Matthew as "a rare talent who truly understands the fluidity of the global music scene," emphasizing his ability to identify creative potential and build structures for international growth. The appointment reflects a broader industry strategy where major publishers are investing heavily in local creative hubs. Scandinavia, long a powerhouse for exporting hit songwriters and producers like Max Martin and Shellback, is a critical region for this focus. Matthew's entrepreneurial background is expected to deepen Warner Chappell's creative network and talent development in this key market, where early identification of local talent is increasingly linked to global chart dominance.
