Neon Chief Tom Quinn, Actress Sophia Bush, YouTuber Markiplier Among Speakers at SXSW London

The London edition of the iconic South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, set for June 1-6 in the capital's trendy Shoreditch district, has unveiled a diverse roster of speakers for its conference program. This second UK iteration will feature 300 sessions, with notable figures including Neon studio head Tom Quinn, influential YouTuber Markiplier, and actress Sophia Bush. They will be joined by an array of leaders from across industries, such as WPP CEO Cindy Rose, BFI Film Fund director Mia Bays, Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen, and Google Maps co-creator Lars Rasmussen.

The conference is structured around six core themes designed to tackle pressing contemporary issues. A major focus is "AI as the New Power Structure," which will scrutinize the sovereignty and accountability behind the algorithms reshaping global economies. As one industry analyst noted, "The concentration of AI development in a handful of private corporations presents unprecedented questions about public oversight and ethical governance." Another key theme, "Living Longer, Living Better," will explore how artificial intelligence is accelerating medical breakthroughs and the practical challenges of implementing these advances in widespread healthcare.

Further themes promise wide-ranging discourse. "Culture Can Save Humanity" will examine the role of creative industries in driving social progress, while "Society Rewired" confronts the impact of misinformation on free speech and democratic norms. The "Creativity in the Algorithmic Age" strand will analyze how creators and marketers must adapt to platform-dominated discovery, and "Futurism in Practice" will delve into boundary-pushing technologies from robotics to extended reality, featuring insights from research bodies like the UK's Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) and Google's DeepMind.

According to Katy Arnander, SXSW London's director of programming, the event's ethos is rooted in convergence. "We intentionally foster unexpected pairings of voices that rarely share a stage," Arnander explained. "This year's agenda balances tension and harmony across frontier tech, medical innovation, music, and activism, creating a vital space for healthy debate. For any business leader or innovator, it's the prime environment to gain insights, discover new concepts, and meaningfully expand their professional network."
