Pooh Shiesty and His Father Arrested in Connection With Robbery and Kidnapping Involving Gucci Mane

Federal authorities have arrested several individuals, including rapper Pooh Shiesty and his father, in connection with a January armed kidnapping and robbery in Dallas. The alleged victims were Atlanta-based rapper Gucci Mane and two associates. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the crime was a premeditated armed takeover at a recording studio, orchestrated under the guise of a professional meeting.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould for the Northern District of Texas detailed the charges at a Thursday briefing. He alleged that Lontrell Denell Williams, Jr.—Pooh Shiesty's legal name—used a firearm to force a victim into signing a contract release. This accusation is layered by the fact that Shiesty has been signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 Records label since 2020. The incident occurred just three months after Shiesty's release from federal prison in October, where he served part of a 63-month sentence on a firearms conspiracy charge. Gucci Mane had publicly celebrated Shiesty's release on social media, making the alleged betrayal a stark example of how quickly alliances can fracture in the high-stakes music industry.

Raybould stated that eight of the nine suspects are now in custody following operations across Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville. The group includes fellow Memphis rapper Big30. Authorities allege the suspects traveled from Memphis to Dallas on January 10 specifically to rob the victims of cash, Rolex watches, and other jewelry. "This was a deliberate resort to violence and intimidation to settle a purported business dispute, not a civil discussion," Raybould emphasized. The FBI also executed a search warrant at a family residence linked to Shiesty near Memphis as part of the operation.

This case adds to Pooh Shiesty's substantial legal history. In 2023, he pleaded guilty to a firearms conspiracy charge related to a 2020 shooting at a Florida hotel, a strategic move that allowed him to avoid a potentially longer sentence. The pattern underscores persistent issues of violence intersecting with the business of hip-hop, where disputes over contracts and revenue can escalate beyond boardrooms. As part of the investigation, authorities highlighted the planned nature of the Dallas incident, suggesting it was motivated by unresolved financial grievances. Such high-profile cases often force a reckoning within the industry, prompting labels and management teams to bolster security and legal oversight for artist interactions.
