50 Cent Documentary Series Set at Hulu

Hulu has announced a three-part documentary series exploring the life of Curtis Jackson, the artist known worldwide as 50 Cent. The project arrives after Jackson served as an executive producer on Netflix's recent Sean Combs documentary, "The Reckoning," and will trace his ascent from the streets of Queens to becoming a Grammy-winning rap icon and a powerful entertainment entrepreneur. His 2003 debut album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," which sold over nine million copies in the U.S. alone, catapulted him to fame with era-defining hits like "In da Club."

Directed by Mandon Lovett, whose previous work includes the documentary "Boys in Blue," the series pledges an unfiltered examination of how Jackson transformed profound personal adversity, including surviving being shot nine times in 2000, into a vast cultural and commercial empire. As one industry analyst noted, "This focus on the mechanics of building a brand, rather than just the drama of destroying one, could redefine the music documentary genre." 50 Cent executive produces the series alongside Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman for IPC, with Patrick Altema as showrunner.

The documentary will delve into his expansion beyond music, highlighting his pivotal role in television through G-Unit Film & Television Inc., the production company he founded. G-Unit is the engine behind the massively successful "Power" universe on Starz, a franchise Jackson both starred in and executive produced, which has spawned multiple spin-offs and solidified his status as a programming powerhouse. His business portfolio, which has included ventures in headphones, liquor, and publishing, exemplifies a strategic diversification rare among artists.

This untitled series adds to Hulu's robust slate of music documentaries, joining acclaimed titles like "Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story." It underscores the streamer's commitment to in-depth profiles of complex cultural figures. 50 Cent is represented by IAG, AKR Public Relations, and his attorney, Stephen J. Savva.
