Sabrina Carpenter Headlines Coachella, Bringing Sexy Pop Hits, Old Hollywood Flare and a Bizarre Susan Sarandon Monologue to the Desert
Show moreAnyma’s Coachella Set Canceled Due to ‘Strong Wind Conditions’
The opening night of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival saw a major schedule change as severe weather forced the cancellation of a highly anticipated performance. Italian American DJ Anyma, known as one-half of the electronic duo Tale of Us, was unable to take the main stage due to dangerous wind conditions impacting his elaborate stage setup.
At 12:17 a.m., following Sabrina Carpenter's headlining set, the festival issued a joint statement with the artist via its app and online channels. "Due to strong wind conditions affecting Anyma’s stage build, he is unable to perform," the notification read, emphasizing that the decision was made collaboratively with audience safety as the top priority. Viewers of the official livestream saw a "Stage Wrapped" message appear, confirming the cancellation. It remains uncertain if the set will be rescheduled for a later date during the festival, which continues through Sunday and repeats with an identical lineup next weekend from April 17-19.
The incident highlights the logistical challenges of large-scale desert festivals, where sudden weather shifts can disrupt even the most meticulously planned events. Anyma, whose real name is Matteo Milleri, is renowned for immersive audiovisual shows that integrate complex physical installations, making them particularly vulnerable to high winds. *Variety* has contacted his representative for further comment on the cancellation.
Despite this setback, the festival's first day proceeded with energetic sets from artists like Dijon, Disclosure, and Turnstile. Headliner Sabrina Carpenter brought notable guests Susan Sarandon and Will Ferrell to the stage, performing her chart-topping hits "Espresso" and "Manchild." The weekend lineup continues to feature headliners Justin Bieber and Karol G, promising a full schedule of performances for attendees.
