Anyma Says He’s ‘Truly Devastated and Deeply Sorry’ Following Canceled Coachella Set: ‘I’m Working on a Solution’
Electronic music artist Anyma has publicly addressed the last-minute cancellation of his Coachella performance, which was called off due to dangerous weather early Saturday. The producer, born Matteo Milleri, expressed profound disappointment in a social media update. "It is devastating," he wrote. "To not be able to share the new ÆDEN show after a year of work with my team and the festival is painful. My deepest apologies go to everyone at the main stage and those tuning in online." The cancellation highlights the logistical fragility of large-scale outdoor events, where even the most anticipated sets can be undone by environmental factors.
Public safety was the decisive factor in the joint decision made with festival organizers. In Indio, California, sustained winds reaching 35-40 miles per hour created unsafe conditions for assembling his intricate stage setup and operating live audio-visual equipment. This followed incidents of tents being overturned in the campgrounds. Milleri emphasized this, stating, "Our top priority was, and always is, safety," confirming the conditions left no viable option to proceed. Coachella, held at the Empire Polo Club in the Colorado Desert, is no stranger to challenging weather, but cancellations of main stage acts remain rare.
With no available slot to reschedule the performance during the first weekend, Milleri noted he is exploring ways to "share some music at least," while being careful not to disrupt other artists' programs. He promised more details soon. Official alerts were sent to attendees just after midnight via the Coachella app and social channels.
The setback underscores the risks of massive desert productions. Anyma first rose to prominence as one-half of the melodic techno duo Tale of Us, known for immersive shows. His solo project has since become a headline act famed for its fusion of music and visionary digital art. As one industry analyst noted, "Anyma's shows are technological marvels, but that very complexity makes them exceptionally vulnerable to elements like high winds. This cancellation is a costly reminder of that dependency."
Despite the disappointment, his scheduled performance for Coachella's second weekend remains on the calendar. He is slated to appear this coming Friday in the same time slot, following Sabrina Carpenter. While forecasts for the final day this Sunday predict milder winds of 10-20 mph, the possibility of gusts remains. The incident serves as a case study in festival contingency planning, demonstrating how even the most advanced productions must ultimately yield to nature's unpredictability.
