Music Industry Moves: Influence Media Partners to Acquire Anthem Entertainment’s Publishing and Film & TV Assets in $600 Million Deal
Influence Media Partners, working alongside investment funds tied to BlackRock affiliates, has finalized a deal to acquire the majority of Anthem Entertainment’s assets, valued at over $600 million. This transaction encompasses Anthem’s music publishing catalogs, its film and television publishing holdings, and a portfolio of master recordings. The collection includes more than 24,000 commercially released tracks and over 60,000 additional works that have yet to be monetized. Notable stakes feature iconic songs such as Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again,” Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack,” and Rush’s “Tom Sawyer.” On the film and television side, the assets include soundtracks from major franchises like “Spider-Man,” “Men in Black,” and “Lego Ninjago.” The deal’s closure, pending standard regulatory approvals, is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026. Industry experts note that this acquisition reflects a growing trend where music royalties are increasingly viewed as a stable, long-term asset class, comparable to real estate or infrastructure. “We’re seeing a paradigm shift,” says music finance analyst Dr. Sarah Kline. “Institutional investors are recognizing that these catalogs offer predictable returns, much like bonds, but with potential for appreciation through new licensing opportunities.”
Lylette Pizarro McLean, Founder and Co-Managing Partner of Influence Media, emphasized the strategic significance of the acquisition. “This is a pivotal moment for our platform,” she remarked. “Anthem’s catalog goes beyond just hit songs—it’s music that has become embedded in iconic moments, films, and shows that resonate globally.” She also expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with industry partners to unlock new opportunities for the represented artists. Influence Media’s existing roster already includes major names like DJ Khaled, Future, and Enrique Iglesias. Paul Braude, CIO of BlackRock’s Direct Private Opportunities Group, praised the assets’ quality, stating, “Anthem’s catalog represents the high-caliber, scalable intellectual property we target in our Direct Private Opportunities strategy.” Jason Klein, CEO of Anthem Entertainment, reflected on his tenure, noting, “Over two decades, Anthem has cultivated a diverse and rich catalog of songs, recordings, and film and television music. It has been an honor to steward this extraordinary collection over the past three years.” BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager with over $10 trillion in assets under management, has been increasingly active in the music rights space, viewing it as a hedge against inflation and a source of steady cash flows.
In other music industry developments, Sony Music Publishing has promoted Ari Gelaw to Senior Vice President of Creative A&R. Based in Los Angeles and reporting directly to SMP President Katie Welle, Gelaw will now lead the U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop team across key hubs in New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. Since joining SMP in 2022 as Vice President, she has signed notable artists such as BigXThaPlug, Victoria Monet, and Samara Cyn, while collaborating with hitmakers like Mustard and Yeat. Welle praised her, saying, “Ari is an exceptional A&R with a remarkable ability to nurture talent. Her sharp creative instincts and deep commitment to songwriters have been vital to our growth.” Meanwhile, Secretly Distribution has elevated Kristian Downs to Executive Director of Platform Operations, where he will oversee digital operations and strategic infrastructure development. COO Chris Welz commended his contributions, noting that Downs’ “strategic vision, technical expertise, and collaborative leadership have been instrumental in building the platforms that support our clients.” These promotions highlight the industry’s focus on nurturing talent and building robust digital infrastructure to adapt to changing consumption patterns.
Additionally, veteran executive Mike Rittberg has stepped down from his role as President of Global Distribution at HYBE, where he managed commercial partnerships, retail strategy, and supply chain operations. With a career spanning Warner Bros. Records, Verve Records, and Big Machine Label Group—where he served as COO—Rittberg brings extensive expertise in artist development and global partnerships. He can be reached at mikerittberg@gmail.com. These personnel shifts, alongside the Anthem acquisition, underscore the ongoing transformation in the music industry, where intellectual property management and talent development are being reshaped by major financial deals and executive movements. Analysts suggest that such high-value transactions signal a growing confidence among institutional investors in music royalties as a reliable, long-term investment vehicle. “The convergence of financial engineering and creative assets is reshaping the industry’s landscape,” adds Kline. “We can expect more such deals as investors seek diversification and artists look for liquidity.”
