Show moreMusic Industry Moves: Yoshiki Signs With BMG
Japanese superstar Yoshiki has entered into a new global distribution and publishing administration deal with BMG through his own label, Melodee. Under the agreement, BMG will handle worldwide distribution for the artist's upcoming releases, kicking off with "Forever Love (Live)," a fresh collaboration featuring the renowned vocalist Josh Groban. The partnership also extends to Yoshiki's solo record "Eternal Melody" and a catalog of X Japan albums released since 1993, which includes celebrated works like "Art of Life" and "Dahlia." Additionally, BMG will manage his publishing rights outside of Japan.
Yoshiki, who has long been recognized as a pioneer in blending rock with classical elements—his orchestral compositions and dramatic piano performances have earned him a devoted global following—expressed enthusiasm about this new chapter. "I've always believed that music has no borders. I'm now entering one of the most ambitious and creative chapters of my career, with new projects that bring together rock, pop, classical and contemporary music in ways I have never explored before," he stated. "I'm thrilled to partner with BMG to bring this vision to the world. 'Forever Love' with Josh Groban marks the beginning—but this partnership represents something much bigger for the future." Michael Kachko, BMG's senior vice president, echoed that sentiment, noting that Yoshiki's "creativity, vision, and connection with fans transcend genres and borders" and that the company is proud to amplify this next phase on a global scale. Industry observers point out that this move could significantly expand Yoshiki's reach in Western markets, where his previous distribution channels were more limited.
In a separate development, Concord Music Publishing has secured an exclusive global publishing agreement with Israeli artist Noga Erez, a singer-songwriter-producer known for her politically charged lyrics and genre-defying sound. The deal also covers her partner and primary collaborator, Ori Rousso. The agreement encompasses all future works as well as key tracks from Erez's existing catalog, including "Stuck In Heaven," "Bubbling," "Penny Lame," "Not My Problem," and the recent single "I Love You" featuring Armani White. Adrian Hillekamp, director of A&R at Concord Music Publishing in Berlin, praised the duo: "Noga Erez is a force of nature and truly one of a kind. The music of Noga and Ori demands attention, their live show is beyond exhilarating and they keep innovating on every record. At the same time, they selflessly give energy, motivation and hope through their songs." Erez, who has been hailed by critics for her bold takes on social and political issues, first gained international attention with her 2017 debut album "Off the Radar," and this new partnership is expected to further elevate her profile in the global market.
Meanwhile, City of Hope, a leading U.S. cancer research and treatment institution, has appointed Willie "Prophet" Stiggers to the executive board of its Music, Film and Entertainment Industry (MFEI) group. Stiggers, who currently serves as president and CEO of the Black Music Action Coalition, brings a wealth of experience in advocacy and industry leadership to the role. Over the past five decades, MFEI has raised more than $180 million to support City of Hope's groundbreaking work in cancer research and patient care. Kristin Bertell, City of Hope's chief philanthropy officer, highlighted Stiggers' unique qualifications: "For more than five decades, MFEI has brought together people who have reached the highest levels of the entertainment business and want to use that influence for something larger than themselves. Prophet is a natural addition to that tradition. He has built an extraordinary platform by bringing people together around issues that matter, and he understands the impact this industry can have when its leaders rally behind City of Hope's mission to make hope a reality for all who face cancer." Stiggers' appointment reflects a growing trend of entertainment industry figures leveraging their platforms for philanthropic causes, particularly in health-related initiatives that disproportionately affect underserved communities.
