Adam Fan Releases Debut English-Language Album ‘Skyfall’

Chinese pop sensation Adam Fan, who also goes by Fan Chengcheng, has unveiled his first-ever full-length album recorded in English, titled "Skyfall." The release marks a significant stride in his ambitions to gain a foothold in the international music market. Accompanying the album is a visually striking music video for its lead track, "Make It Make Sense."

The album was crafted with input from global production outfits Hits Rhythm and A WW Productions. A distribution arrangement between Hits Rhythm and Pacific Music Group will bring the record to audiences worldwide, excluding mainland China. Several Grammy-nominated producers from the West lent their talents to the project. This international rollout mirrors an expanding pattern of Chinese musicians aiming for cross-border breakthroughs, much like Jackson Wang, whose 2022 record "Magic Man" secured a spot on the Billboard 200. Notably, the global music industry has seen a surge in Asian artists collaborating with Western producers to bridge cultural and sonic divides, a strategy that often boosts streaming numbers and award consideration.

Fan initially captured public attention as a contestant on the Chinese survival program "Idol Producer." He later became a member of the boy group Nine Percent before embarking on a solo path. Since then, his career has expanded into acting and variety show roles, including appearances in dramas like "The Journey Across the Night" and shows such as "Keep Running." Across Chinese and broader Asian social media, his total follower count has now surpassed 100 million. The "Idol Producer" series, which debuted in 2018, rapidly turned into a cultural phenomenon in China, spawning several seasons and launching many participants into chart-topping careers. For context, China's pop culture landscape has increasingly served as a launchpad for artists seeking global appeal, with the show's alumni often leveraging their massive domestic fanbases to test international waters.

The title song "Skyfall" was co-written by American artist Lawson, who has also penned tracks for The Weeknd and Playboi Carti's "Timeless." The lead single "Make It Make Sense" was both written and produced by Puku, whose previous credits include work on Partynextdoor and Drake's "Something About You." Additional songs on the album comprise "Go Girl," "TTTM," "Error," "Make It Rock," "Pink," and "Heard of Us." As an expert in cross-cultural music marketing notes, "Artists like Fan are smart to enlist proven Western hitmakers—it's a shortcut to credibility and radio play in new markets, though the real test is whether the music resonates beyond the hype."

In a press statement, Fan expressed his enthusiasm: "I'm excited to bring Skyfall and its visual world to audiences around the world. This album represents the music I genuinely love and the creative direction I've always wanted to explore. I want to keep challenging myself, breaking boundaries and pushing my creativity further, while hopefully inspiring more people to discover new possibilities through music."
