Apple Reveals Apple Music Hall, a New Live Venue in London

Apple has unveiled plans for a brand-new live entertainment space, Apple Music Hall, set to open within London's Battersea Power Station. According to the company, the venue is a cutting-edge facility built to foster close, intimate connections between artists and their audiences. The announcement came on Tuesday, with Apple emphasizing that no other venue of this kind exists anywhere in the world. Battersea Power Station, a Grade II listed former coal-fired power plant on the south bank of the Thames, has just undergone a massive redevelopment into a mixed-use neighborhood, making it an ideal home for a cultural draw of this magnitude. The building famously appeared on the cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 album Animals, cementing its status as a London landmark long before its recent revival.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and international content, tied the project to the company's deep-rooted musical legacy. He cited the iPod era, the iTunes Music Festival years, and the emergence of Apple Music as proof of that lasting dedication. From his perspective, Apple Music Hall represents another bold leap in delivering live experiences to both artists and listeners that only Apple can provide. The iTunes Music Festival, for instance, ran annually in London from 2007 to 2014 and featured acts ranging from Adele to Coldplay, so the city already holds a cherished place in Apple's live-music narrative. As one industry analyst put it, "Apple is essentially building a physical embodiment of its streaming ecosystem, a place where the digital and live worlds finally converge under one roof."

The 600-capacity room is engineered so that no seat feels distant from the stage, while still packing the technical muscle of a major arena tour. A 38-foot-wide stage can be rearranged for in-the-round performances, and a 48-speaker spatial sound system envelops the space. The venue doubles as a full production hub, featuring two professional recording and mixing studios on site. Over 16 cameras and a broadcast control room capable of iPhone video capture complete the setup. According to press materials, an artist can deliver an intimate set and leave with a finished Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-ready mix, and multicamera footage from the same performance. Every show will also stream live globally. Spatial Audio, Apple's immersive three-dimensional sound format, anchors this setup and mirrors the company's wider ambition to merge live performance with next-generation audio production. This approach could set a new benchmark for how concerts are captured and distributed, potentially influencing rivals like Spotify and Amazon to develop their own hybrid venues.

Zane Lowe, Apple Music's global creative director and lead anchor for Apple Music 1, echoed that excitement. He said the team is driven by a real passion for music, the artists who create it, and the stories behind it. Lowe explained that Apple Music is always hunting for fresh ways to link creators with fans, because the people behind the service are fans themselves. A venue where extraordinary music can be experienced in an extraordinary room and then shared with a worldwide audience, he argued, is the perfect embodiment of that bond. He predicted that great music and lasting memories will be forged at Apple Music Hall. Apple Music 1, for context, is the company's flagship global radio station, known for premiering new tracks and airing in-depth artist interviews. It reaches listeners in over 100 countries, making it a powerful promotional platform for any artist lucky enough to perform at the new venue.

Apple Music Hall will officially open its doors on September 28. Those seeking more information about the venue or its upcoming slate of shows can visit its official website.
