Taylor Swift Breaks Two Spotify Records for 2026, Including Most-Streamed Female Artist in a Day

Taylor Swift has once again smashed Spotify's records, securing two major 2026 milestones in just one day. The pop superstar achieved the biggest streaming day of the year for a female artist, while her new single "Patient Zero" became the most-streamed song by a female artist in a 24-hour period this year. These achievements came immediately after the midnight release of "The Life of a Showgirl: Encore," a deluxe edition containing four previously unreleased tracks.

This expanded project complements her 2025 album "The Life of a Showgirl," adding "Patient Zero," "Cleveland!," "Pink Clouding," and "Babylon" to her discography. Swift's marketing approach, true to form, defied expectations. During an "Law & Order: SVU" parody at the Emmys, she remained in character as a detective and offered a cryptic hint: "I think what we're going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight." She then broke the fourth wall, addressing the camera directly with "Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard. North or south." Fans quickly deciphered the clue, noticing that the third letter of each word spelled "encore."

The following Tuesday, Swift officially announced "Patient Zero" as a single, releasing three limited-edition CD versions through her webstore. A day later, she confirmed that "The Life of a Showgirl: Encore" would arrive that Friday. In a social media post, she explained the reason for the additional material. "About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave 'The Life of a Showgirl' the biggest first week for an album in history," she wrote. She described celebrating in Sweden with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, adding, "There was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs. I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude." Martin and Shellback have been pivotal in crafting some of the biggest pop hits of the past twenty years, working with artists from Britney Spears to The Weeknd.

Next, Swift will premiere the "Patient Zero" music video during this Sunday's MTV VMAs, where she will also receive the show's first-ever Artist-Director Award. Directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, the video features Swift alongside Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. She teased a clip during Thursday's "CBS Mornings" before sharing it on her social platforms. Lubezki, known for "Gravity" and "The Revenant," brings his trademark immersive camerawork to the project, and the VMAs' new trophy underscores that Swift's influence now extends as powerfully behind the camera as it does in the recording studio.
