Sia Sells 50% of Music Catalog to Pophouse in $180 Million Partnership Deal

Swedish entertainment and music investment company Pophouse Entertainment has struck a deal to buy half of the publishing and master recording rights belonging to Australian singer-songwriter Sia. The transaction is valued at $180 million. Pophouse, co-founded by ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus, will partner with Sia on future creative projects while also managing her extensive song catalog. TMZ was the first outlet to report the financial terms, and noted that the deal has become intertwined with Sia's divorce proceedings against Dan Bernad.

Court documents referenced by TMZ indicate that $165 million of the purchase price is allocated to Sia for compositions she wrote prior to her marriage to Bernad. That pre-marital body of work contains worldwide hits such as "Chandelier," "Titanium," and "Cheap Thrills." Bernad has reportedly relinquished any claims to those songs in return for a $1 million settlement. The other $15 million, covering songs written during the marriage, will remain in escrow until both sides reach a final agreement. The marriage lasted under three years, and Sia filed for divorce in March 2025. Sia's 2014 album "1000 Forms of Fear," which includes "Chandelier," premiered at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking her shift from a behind-the-scenes songwriter to a front-facing pop star.

Sia initially gained widespread international recognition through her 2004 track "Breathe," which was featured in the series finale of HBO's "Six Feet Under." In the years since, she has received nine Grammy nominations and generated a long list of hits, among them "Unstoppable," "Elastic Heart," and "Cheap Thrills," as well as "Thunderclouds" in 2018 with the supergroup LSD, which also featured Diplo and Labrinth. Her songwriting reach goes beyond her own recordings: she co-wrote Rihanna's "Diamonds" and Beyoncé's "Pretty Hurts." One music industry analyst observed, "Sia's dual identity as a chart-topping performer and a behind-the-scenes hitmaker for others makes her catalog unusually valuable—it spans multiple revenue streams and generations of listeners."

"I'm really excited to be working with Pophouse," Sia said in a statement. "These songs mean so much to me, and I love that they really understand that and want to take care of them. I've been making music for a very long time now, and it feels exciting to think about all the new and different ways these songs might get to live on and find people. I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can dream up together." Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos added that Sia's "extraordinary catalogue and unique creative identity offer exceptional opportunities to celebrate and build on her remarkable body of work." She said the partnership would give Sia strategic support and creative resources to keep pursuing her artistic goals while preserving and expanding her influence, calling it a privilege to work with her.

Pophouse Fund Partner Shahriar Shokofan said few artists have shaped modern pop as deeply as Sia, praising her songwriting and distinctive voice as defining some of the most iconic records of recent decades. He described her ability to balance artistic integrity with mass appeal as setting her apart as a truly unstoppable force, and said the firm was delighted to partner with her at this stage of her career. The investment was made through Pophouse Fund I, the company's first fund, which reached its €1 billion hard cap in March 2025. An additional €200 million came through dedicated co-investment vehicles, bringing total fundraising above €1.2 billion. Pophouse's portfolio already features catalogs from Iron Maiden, Tina Turner, Kiss, Cyndi Lauper, Avicii, and Swedish House Mafia, along with projects such as the Avicii Experience, ABBA the Museum, "Mamma Mia! the Party," and ABBA's "Voyage" concert production. The Sia deal represents yet another major wager on legacy pop catalogs, a pattern that has produced similar nine-figure acquisitions by companies like Primary Wave and Hipgnosis Songs Fund in recent years.
