Show moreCharli xcx’s A24 Film ‘The Moment’ Unveils Full Cast: Kylie Jenner, Alexander Skarsgard, Rachel Sennott and More
Pop visionary Charli xcx unveiled the ensemble for her forthcoming A24 movie, "The Moment," in a dynamic social media post this Thursday. The announcement, styled in the distinctive neon palette of her "Brat" album cycle, confirmed a cast featuring Kylie Jenner, Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, and Rosanna Arquette. They are joined by a roster of other talents, including musician Shygirl and producer A. G. Cook, the latter of whom is also creating the film's musical score. The project is directed by Aidan Zamiri, a frequent creative partner of the artist.
Originally developed by Charli herself, the film casts her in a semi-autobiographical lead role as a rising pop star grappling with the demands of celebrity and the complexities of the industry while getting ready for her first major tour. This self-reflective storyline aims to inject a dose of raw realism into the narrative. As media critic Dr. Lena Shaw noted, "By fusing her real-life experiences with a fictional framework, she is employing a strategy that has historically given musician-led films like 'Purple Rain' or '8 Mile' a unique and compelling authenticity."
"The Moment" is slated for a theatrical release next year. The screenplay was penned by director Zamiri and Bertie Brandes. The film, which was initially covered by Variety at the start of the year, is the first official output from Charli's newly launched production entity, Studio365. This move underscores her strategic expansion from the recording studio into film production, granting her greater authority over her creative output.
For Aidan Zamiri, the project marks his first full-length feature as a director. Zamiri, who has built a formidable career as a photographer and director of music videos, has previously crafted visuals for a range of major artists, including Billie Eilish and Yung Lean. His extensive commercial portfolio also includes innovative campaigns for global giants like Nike and Google, as well as high-profile work with actor Timothée Chalamet. This diverse background in shaping compelling imagery positions him as a visual artist ready to make his mark in cinema.
Charli xcx's foray into film follows an exceptionally successful period for the singer, whose sixth album "Brat" and its completely sold-out global tour defined the pop conversation. Her acting debut in Pete Ohs' "Erupcja" was met with positive reviews at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)—an event famous for premiering award-season contenders. Looking ahead, her schedule includes roles in high-profile projects such as a remake of "Faces of Death," Gregg Araki's "I Want Your Sex," and Cathy Yan's "The Gallerist," cementing her status as a multi-hyphenate talent with a rapidly growing screen presence.
